The Big Bang Theory / Young Sheldon

Yes you are stuck in the 90s because the days where Australian networks can have success from American imports on free-to-air are over. You just have not realised it yet.

Here’s an example of how Nine has screwed around TBBT this season.

Season 10’s airdates here v. US

As far as Nine is concerned, I don’t think TBBT is much of a priority for them these days, to the point that the Season 10 DVD has been released here before Nine even finishes with the season, meaning that the last few eps of the season, including the season finale, are already legally available here. I guess the reason it’s currently doing well on its Tuesday night timeslot is due to having The Block as its lead-in, as well as having fairly weak competition from other networks.

Correction: Those eps never aired here in January.

Of interest, here are the ratings for each episodes from Season 10 that have aired here to date:

I know for a fact that it premiered in NZ on TVNZ 2 tonight (Wednesday), a day (considering the time difference) after it aired in the US. According to their website, they’ve also confirmed that they’ll air Young Sheldon.

No surprise Young Sheldon has been picked up for a full season after its impressive debut this week. Its 18-49 rating of 3.8 made it the highest-rated series premiere in the demographic since Empire in January 2015.

According to both YourTV & the EPG on my TV, Nine have scheduled an encore airing of an upcoming new episode (S10E23, which aired in the US on May 4) this Tuesday at 11:20pm, along with an earlier usual 8:40pm airing on the same night.
Perhaps Nine are taking hints from 7flix on running the same episode of the show within the same night?

You could throw in Season 9 as well, considering that Nine’s rights to the season had apparently expired, and will air on Foxtel’s Comedy Channel from next weekend.

If Nine are not airing Season 11 the week after the Season 10 finale airs, then there’s also the possibility that they haven’t bought the rights, and therefore may end up somewhere else, such as Stan (as mentioned above) or possibly even Ten after CBS takes ownership of the network (yes, I know TBBT is not a CBS-produced show, but it airs on the network in the US).

I notice 9Go! have multiple reports of TBBT scheduled next week (last year’s season).

Yes, I’d say Nine execs have noticed how well TBBT has been performing on 7flix.

Nine had previously successfully shown multiple repeats long before Seven got it.

THE BIG BANG THEORY - Season 11

From Tuesday 17 Oct at 8:40pm

Ep 1 Amy gives Sheldon an answer to his proposal while Howard and Bernadette struggle with some unexpected news, on the 11th season premiere.

Any sign of Young Sheldon?

only one ep has aired in the US

Young Sheldon doesn’t officially start in the U.S. until November 2. Only the pilot has aired so far.

I’d say whichever network in Australia picks it up (if any) would wait until next year to show the pilot episode alongside the rest of the season.

Id say that show will air here Feb/March.

Tonight, Nine aired the SAME episode of Big Bang TWICE, once before the double episode of Kath & Kim and again after K&K.

Does Nine normally do this?

Yup, it’s been covered in the thread where the schedule is posted.

Looks like Nine has finally bought the rights to Young Sheldon. It will be interesting to see if it is paired with TBBT like the US.

Watched an old episode (Season 4 Episode 19) on The Comedy Channel at 6pm AEDT tonight.

I noticed about 1.5 minutes into the episode the police officer is talking away and there is about 1 second where his mouth is moving but the audio has been muted. Thought it was Foxtel hiding something until I googled it and found that it had been mentioned online before.

I wonder what it was that was cut out of the episode’s audio…

I just watched my copy of the episode in question, and it does seem like a word was cut. I can’t make out exactly what word he said, perhaps “freaking” or “bloody”, but it doesn’t seem like either of those words would be cut.

Young Sheldon has been renewed for a second season.

It’s quite a strange situation that no FTA network has the rights to Seasons 1-9 of TBBT at present, with Nine only having the rights to Seasons 10 & 11. In fact, last week, TBBT wasn’t shown anywhere on FTA at all here in Australia, which hasn’t happened in years. A bit like the situation with The Simpsons not being on FTA that’s been happening since the beginning of September. However, at least the repeats (from Season 10) return this week.

If Nine had bought back the rights to Seasons 1-9, we would probably have seen those epas scheduled on 9Go! by now, which is currently not the case (again, just Season 10 eps only).

I wonder if Ten, now under CBS ownership, is considering buying the repeat rights to the show for Eleven to fill the void left behind of having lost the Fox output deal?
I think it would be quite a coup for Ten, therefore boosting Eleven’s audience share, as well as the network share. Perhaps they would air it after finishing with Will & Grace, and air it as double eps each weeknight at 7:30-8:30pm, with encore airings at late night & weekends.
