I can’t be too critical of the location recycling because doubtless they had issues with border restrictions, not being able to enter certain states without facing quarantine, etc. I think movement was open between QLD/NT/SA, so it’s no surprise they’ve stayed there.
NSW/VIC/WA were logistically difficult for various reasons last October.
We can be critical because they decided to stretch it out for 24 episodes. They wouldn’t have needed to go to Queensland twice if there weren’t sooo many non-elimination legs.
It seemed to always be the plan to return to Queensland because they had planned it in an earlier leg. I guess they had no choice when states shut their borders to travellers.
If you watch tonight’s Brisbane episode closely you will have noticed a task was not shown on TV. When the teams arrived at Subway Queen Street it was mid afternoon. When they finished their task and ripped open the clue, they were outside a park in early evening.
The unseen task is
While in Brisbane, the teams spent some time with the charity group, Orange Sky, to learn about how they help the homeless.
The route certainly seems to be a consequence of the circumstances of the time, with certain states being closed off to certain other states, and requiring mandatory quarantine for others.
Unfortunately there will be more non-elimination legs, with seven teams still racing and nine episodes to go. At least this Sunday’s episode in Hobart will be an elimination.
Here are the synopses for the next three Tasmanian episodes (from The Mercury)
Sunday 7 March
For the first challenge, teams will make their way to Wrest Point to take a gamble at building a house of cards that must stand five storeys high. They’ll also be tested with scaling buildings and climbing epic stairs before being given a tasty treat in a Detour challenge. Teams will have to find Beau on the Lady Nelson which will be the pitstop.
Another team will leave the competition.
Tuesday 9 March
Teams will head into the south-west wilderness, where they’ll channel their inner LeBron while attempting to dunk a basketball into an oversized hoop on the 140-metre high Gordon Dam wall.
Team rivalries will be put to the test as they work together in an Intersection, and they will then attempt an oyster-shucking challenge of epic proportions.
Well if Sundays an elimination it’ll be very easy to figure out who going by the promo at the end of the episode as they clearly show who’s in the convict clothes and dunking the basketballs.
It’s not uncommon for tasks to be edited out from time to time in the US version as well. It was probably due to the fact that it was a very predictable leg with the Bodybuilders trailing (again!) so they didn’t want to drag it out for another 90 minute episode if not necessary. Although they seem to have no problem dragging out 3 episodes before eliminating someone.
Especially when one of the challenges that was left in was guessing the ingredients in a sandwich. I know they have sponsor commitments, but really?
Also noticed last night that when the body builders were running to the Subway challenge, one of them was already holding the Subway hat they would later get as part of the challenge. Even the editors can’t be bothered anymore.
I remember in a previous leg after a task it kept showing some of the teams scoffing down Subway in the cab. I thought it was odd but makes sense now that they are clearly a sponsor.
Even one of the commentary bits last night for Sky-blue and her bro they were sitting outside on a sunny day and it definitely was not from this leg. I’m pretty sure it was from a couple of legs earlier.
I noticed that too. I wondered when they had time to stop at Subway because it was so random. I actually went back and watched it again and it still didn’t make sense where the Subway came from, but I guess now I know!
Yeah and some of the teams that suddenly had Subway were ones that were panicking that they were behind. I thought it was weird that they then had time to get Subway but I guess that it must have been given to them.
