Absolutely agree, Gillian was up there with best ever for sure. Great find by production - always seems to pay off when they find a less well known comedian who excels at improv
The continuity would be too jarring. Maybe incorporating a temporary blue door at the rear of the sets when needed?
Colin Lane is guest judge this week.
Watching in Melbourne, I notice the audio and video of the opening segment are out of sync. The dialogue is around five seconds ahead of the pictures.
Update: it is back in sync during the middle of Ray O’Leary’s air force scene.
No issues on 10Play.
Now cmon, a special entrance (again) when there’s a door literally where the set is. Why do this?
I wonder if this would work with a couple of specials every year where the people that walk through the doors are not comedians. Perhaps a politician ep, an actor ep, a musician ep, tv host ep???
I know they probably won’t be as fast on their feet but could still be fun and the ensemble cast could be prepped in a different way and feed them more lines…the comedians are quick witted but it may be just as fun to see some of these guys in a uncomfortable ‘Fish out of water’ situation.
Think there are some big personalities that could have fun on this show like jimmy Barnes, Karl stefanovic, Rebecca gibney, and I’m sure Albo would give this a go….imagine that!!!
Celia mentioned that in Ray O’Leary’s two appearances on Thank God You’re Here, the same ensemble actress shouted her dialogue at Ray. That actress is Violeta Brau Mugica, who competed on season five of The Amazing Race Australia in 2021, and was a professional dancer on Dancing with the Stars season 17 in 2020.
Multiple instances of this tonight, I’m slowly seeing your logic behind it now.
Tommy, Zoë, Emma And Marty, Thank God You’re Here.
Wednesday, 18 September At 7.30pm On 10 And 10 Play.
Each week Thank God You’re Here sends four fearless guests through a blue door and into a world they’ve never seen. They have to find their bearings and fib their way through while the nation watches on – no pressure!
Joining us next Wednesday are Tommy Little, Zoë Coombs-Marr, Emma Holland, and Marty Sheargold. We hope they’ve packed their brown pants because this is a comedic challenge like no other!
Our performers will be battling it out to take home the Thank God You’re Here trophy, and a VVIP guest judge will dub the best bluffer.
I’d support more actors. They need more actor performers not just stand up comedians.
I think Virginia (and Susie in the all-in) showed that tonight, alongside the brilliant Gillian last week.
The production design team need to be commended - seriously the scale, ambition and level of detail in the scenes is incredible.
Virginia was robbed tonight.
Agreed! But then look who was judge, Colin ‘look at me’ Lane.
10’s social media people seem to think that TGYH is back next year though not specifically stated in the upfronts media pack.
Celia was also in the big group photo of all the stars, near the centre as well.
Brilliant. I wonder why this was left out of the upfronts today.
My guess is they don’t want to renew stuff that is currently on air, or is set to return later (apart from obvious titles like Gogglebox, etc) in case ratings dramatically change for any reason.
Either way, if there is one thing 10 knows how to do, it is to let Working Dog just do their thing - look how far Kitty Flanagan, Celia Pacquola, Sam Pang, etc have come since they were first on HYBA? - now all three of them have their own shows (Fisk, Thank God You’re Here, and Sam’s untitled show).
Even Tim McDonald and Melanie Bracewell started on HYBA (albeit Melanie was already popular in NZ), and now they have their own show (Cheap Seats). And Mel Tracina being discovered by a national audience on Cheap Seats has now lead to her being offered the role of hosting one of the most iconic reality shows in modern Australian TV history (Big Brother). Even Guy Montgomery now has his own show on the ABC.
If any production company deserves to be inducted in the Logies Hall of Fame, it’s Working Dog for sure.
