He’s not my favourite player either but it would be a shame if he’s forced into early retirement. I agree he shouldn’t have been booed by the crowd.
I didn’t see any of this match as I was catching up on my sleep ,arrived home early this morning.now watching Shelton vs Sinner
It will be Jannik Sinner v Alexander Zverev in Sunday night’s final after the world No.1 dismantled American Ben Shelton in semi-final tonight. The turning point came in late in the first set when Shelton was serving at 6-5 and had a set point. Sinner won that game to force the set into the set break, which he won 7-2. From there, Shelton’s game collapsed in a heap as Sinner exerted his dominance even though he suffered cramp, winning the next two sets 6-2 6-2.
Went to the Aus Open today on a ground pass, some great action! It’s finals week - so there is not a lot to choose from, but I watched six matches of juniors, wheelchair and a women’s doubles match between 1pm-7pm so I’d say that was a good afternoon! Will be doing it again next year.
One year I’ll go, but I think I’ll go in the first week, just on a ground pass like you have, just to wander around and see how it’s all set up.
Would recommend first week if you want more tennis for sure. It’s really good, you can just wander in and out of courts if you wanted to.
Maybe I’ll do that next year but I waited until the 2nd week this year so I could see some big names playing
Great final, who wants it more… The three-peat? Or a first major? We shall find out!
I think Madison Keys lost her concentration in the second set with that flurry of unforced errors.
Keys serving first in the 3rd and holding so far could give her the championship
Come On Keys!!!
Madison Keys: 2025 Australian Open Champion
Keys won 6-2, 3-6, 7-5. This is her maiden Grand Slam title. At this tournament she beat four top 10 players on her way to become a champion.
Contrasting reactions from both players at the end of the match. Keys shed tears of joy before hugging her husband among her entourage, while Sabalenka smashed her racquet in anger and buried her head around a towel.
Wow, what an upset win, finally the veteran American gets the grand slam victory
I thought Sabalenka would win in the end, especially after the 2nd set, only a tad disappointed we didn’t get the super tie break, perhaps a good thing for Madison Keys. The contrasting tears…
Did I hear Alicia Molik say it’s been 13 years since a women’s major final got to at least 5-5 in a 3rd set? I think Serena v Azarenka 2012 US Open was uttered.
I like to see the underdog win ,she(Madison Keys) deserved it.
I was very happy to see Madison Keys secure her maiden GS title. Keys should be very proud of what she had achieved. When I watched the third set, I was a bit sceptical about Aryna Sabalenka would win at the end, but Madison Keys won.
According to Nine’s James Bracey, it was Madison Key’s 46th Grand Slam at the 2025 Aus Open.
Why is it the Mens Doubles Final always follows the Womens Singles where it should start the other way Round? Can’t it start at 7?
I think it was done so as to be a sort of back-up if the women’s singles final blows-out and quickly finishes, can be less than an hour. So broadcasters and ticket holders (and other viewers) get a bit more. Could be wrong.
But in the case of tonight, the opposite has sort of happened. Which I think is also a good thing. I’m sure plenty are sticking around to watch, nothing else on, why not, see more grand slam champions and aloft another trophy. Obviously not on the scale of the ‘Special Ks’ from a few years ago which went nuclear for some reason.
A well deserved first Major for Madison Keys, especially a month short of her 30th birthday.
Someone on X has pointed out that she won the tournament on Alicia Keys’ 44th birthday!

FWIW, the two are not related.
Also worth noting that Keys is the first woman to win a Major after saving a match point en route since Iga Swiatek did it against Naomi Osaka in the second round at Roland Garros last year, and at the Australian Open since Osaka fought off two (?) match points against Garbine Muguruza in 2021.
Coincidentally, Keys fought off a match point against Swiatek in the semi.
Swiatek and Naomi Osaka are, to my knowledge, two of only a few women to have both won a Major after saving a match point (Swiatek at the 2024 French Open and Osaka at the 2021 Australian Open), AND lost to the eventual champion after holding a match point (Swiatek at the 2025 Australian Open and Osaka at the 2024 French Open).
Notably, Maria Sharapova held two or three match points in her semi-final against Serena Williams at the 2005 Australian Open, only to lose the match (Williams went on to win the tournament). She never defeated the American ever again after that.
