Tennis Australia says Novak Djokovic is moving on from what the star player labelled “insulting and offensive” remarks by Nine presenter Tony Jones, as the official Australian Open broadcaster bolsters security arrangements in response to backlash from Serbian community leaders.
The comments also prompted the Serbian Council of Australia to lodge a human rights complaint and call for Jones to be fired, while Prime Minister Anthony Albanese urged “kindness and generosity”.
Two security sources not authorised to speak publicly told this masthead that additional safety arrangements had been put in place by tennis authorities and the host broadcaster. Nine, the owner of this masthead. Tennis Australia declined to comment on those arrangements.
Extra security was seen stationed on site on Monday, and the bolstered arrangements will continue into Tuesday night, when Djokovic is due to play rising Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz in Djokovic’s 15th quarter-final appearance at the tournament. The clash is expected to attract a large contingent of vocal fans.
Single tickets for tomorrows night session are selling for $1899 EACH!
Sabalenka and Alcaraz/Dickovic playing.
The surge pricing is worse than the airlines.
What a joke.
So happy for Alex De Minaur - winning tonight - to make his first Quarter Final at the Australian Open. He plays defending winner Jannik Sinner on Wednesday night.
Amazing win ![]()
C’mon Demon

A long time between drinks for the Aussie men, 10 years! A young Nick Kyrgios was the last to make the QFs in 2015:
Luckily I’ve already got my ticket for tomorrow’s day session then .Theres no way I’m paying $2000 for the evening session, can’t afford it
What a shame I won’t see this match, obviously the tickets will be too expensive like for tonight’s session
What is happening tonight? ![]()

I assume she means Alcaraz v Djokovic.
I wasnt responding to anyone. I mean the Sabalenka match. Not going to plan at all.
Has the potential to be a blockbuster. Though completely unrelated to recent events, I would love to see Alcaraz win (so he can keep alive his chances of becoming the youngest man to achieve the career Grand Slam).
The final set of the ongoing Sabalenka-Pavlyuchenkova is becoming a break-a-thon too.
The way these two are going, we could have a 21-19 3rd set tie break! If Joker and Carlos go 5 sets and 5 hours, could be here to 3am!! Lucky West Aussies. ![]()
That just happened to be the final set scoreline when Andy Roddick defeated Younes El Aynaoui in that marathon quarter-final in 2003 (YEA beat world number one Lleyton Hewitt in the fourth round).
Of course, new rules were put into place in recent years regarding final sets at the Majors to ensure that matches are finished within a reasonable timeframe, which means we’ll never get a 70-68 final set ever again unless the rules are reverted in the future, which I cannot see happening.
I also think the Sunday start at this year’s AO has served its purpose as we are seeing less matches go past (say) 1:00am in the morning, notwithstanding Daniil Medvedev’s second round departure at 3:00am.
Was that score to advantage/games? Or a 3rd or 4th set breaker?
To advantage; it was the final set (should’ve clarified this, sorry).
Djokovic vs Alcaraz is looking like it could be a very late one.
What a match, living up to the hype, it’s had everything so far
Absolutely fantastic match. Both played incredibly well.
I should see some great matches later this morning,2 women’s quarters ,featuring Iga Swiatek.
And later on young American Ben Shelton in his quarter final match
Wow, didn’t expect the Joker to get past Alcaraz, especially after losing the first set.
