He’s having a sook.

I bet the crowd will be against him when he plays Carlos Alcaraz in the quarters on Tuesday (afternoon or night, still to be decided).

History at stake for either player - Djokovic can keep alive his chances of claiming a record-breaking 25th Major singles title, or Alcaraz his chances of becoming the youngest ever player to complete his set of Grand Slam titles.

If Alcaraz (currently 21 years and 8.5 months) could pull off the latter, he would complete his set of Majors at a younger age than when Roger Federer was when he won his first Major title at Wimbledon in 2003 (Federer was a month short of turning 22). Rafael Nadal was 24 years and 3 months when he completed his set of Majors at the 2010 US Open.

The fans, who are paying a lot of money to be there and in general as well on TV and elsewhere, if COVID Aus Open and Danielle Collins are anything to go by… Do not like whinging and rude players. Just when the Joker had probably started to regain some supporters. Makes the Tony Jones thing even funnier now :joy:

They just showed Djokovic having a pretty tense chat with Craig Tilley. He didn’t look happy. This will be an interesting post match press conference.

Feeling like this is a dud year for the AO after a run of good ones. Half the top players didn’t make it past the 3rd round. Lots of one sided matches, and no one to really get behind and get excited about. Di minaur is going to have to carry it from here.

Possibly not just because of the crowd, but maybe because of the Tony Jones comments too?

I’ve just seen these Tony Jones comments and they are quite bizarre coming from a reporter. Very odd.

For once, I support Djokovic’s protest.
Tony Jones should be forced to apologise and Nine should probably let him go now.

It has been a little bit weaker perhaps, but wouldn’t go as far as to use that term, especially not on Day 8.

I can think of others… 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2021, 2023.

I was at Novak’s match tonight and was extremely surprised to not see an in court interview.
What a sook over a joke comment from TJ.

I was watching his match with the TV sound off and couldn’t understand why Novak walked straight off the court after his match even though Jim Courier was there waiting to speak to him

Tony Jones has apologised to Novak Djokovic over comments that led to boycott and appeared in an interview on Nine.

Good. I can see why Novak took offence but that explanation and apology really should just close this now. Time to move on.

Agree. Storm in a teacup. Time to move on.

Why the hell is the media reporting that Musk has weighed into this crap? Honestly.

It’s a huge story not only in Australia but worldwide, Djokovic’s video on X has over 62M views alone. That’s huge!

Monfils, big kudos

Meanwhile… Lucky loser from qualifying on centre court getting smashed, unfortunate running into Iga Swiatek, 0-6, 0-3! :flushed: At least Demon will be out earlier.

Swiatek eventually won the match 6-0, 6-1. Eva Lys however became the first lucky loser to reach the fourth round of women’s singles of Australian Open.
