Yes but remember there’s Joker clay… Then there’s Joker grass… And then there’s the :crown: that is Joker hard court, namely Melbourne Park.

Zverev choked serving for the match and it looks like we are going to a 5 setter with Alcaraz winning in the end. It would be his first win from 2 sets to 0 down.

This afternoon’s heavy rain in Melbourne is bad news for Australian Open organisers, with nine matches at outside courts (juniors and wheelchair) suspended. Although the weather should improve in the next couple of days, it will be lucky if juniors and wheelchair competitions are completed before the men’s singles final is held this Sunday night.

John Cain has no play so I’d move as many as possible in there. Also in three days competition should be finished, if it means moving players to play multiple games in one day.

John Cain Arena is now not available as it is being converted back to a basketball court for the remainder of the NBL season.

Ah I didn’t realize that.

It’s a shame both men’s semis are no longer in prime time. Was this done to give fair rest before the respective genders’ finals? Or to heighten women’s tennis by giving them two prime time matches in one night?

Might be for North American audiences.

Afternoons seem to line up with their primetime I believe?

Medvedev and Sverev are playing their semi final tomorrow night, at 7.30pm. That IS primetime.

Djokovic and Sinner are the afternoon match…

John Cain is also hosting the AO finals music festival this week, 1st day was today and then the music festival continues Saturday + Sunday. This is the first year it’s being held inside, rather than out in the open.

The 2nd women’s semi final between Yastremska and Zheng is heading for a late finish just before midnight

Qinwen Zheng won in straight sets, 6-4 6-4, and will face defending champion Aryna Sabalenka (who beat Coco Gauff earlier also in straight sets) in Saturday night’s final.

Really happy for Qinwen. Really deserves to win the title and I’ll be backing her all the way.

Oh god, who could forget that 2012 “grunt-off” (as I liked to call it) between Azarenka and Sharapova?

Thank god I didn’t watch that match (I was overseas at the time).

Earlier that year, I remember the crowd mocked her during a match against Casey Dellacqua, and they did likewise for Sabalenka’s match against Ash Barty in 2018.

In all seriousness, though, I can see Sabalenka defending her title but I expect Zheng Qinwen to mount a serious challenge on Saturday night.

Looks like the Djokovic/Sinner match could be all over in three sets with one set remaining. Sinner’s way

At least at the moment it’s not a wank fest with Courier over Djokovic.
