The Australian Open has a new ticket agent with Ticketmaster replacing Ticketek. The good news for fans is that booking fees will be axed from next year’s tournament onwards.
World No.1 tennis player Ashleigh Barty has taken out the Don Award 2019 at Sport Australia Hall of Fame ceremony in Melbourne tonight. The prestigious award is given to the sportsperson who by performance and example has most inspired the nation in the last year.

New logos for the warm-up tournaments to the Australian Open were revealed for the first time today at Nine’s 2020 upfronts - B for Brisbane, H for Hobart and A for Adelaide.

Ash Barty beat defending champion Karolina Pliskova 6-4 6-3 in the decider of the season ending WTA FInals where she collected $6.4 million in Shenzhen, China.

The Fed Cup final is now 2-2 after Alja Tomljanovic beat Pauline Permentier in straight sets. What a comeback for Tomljanovic after she was thumped by Kristina Mladenovic in the opening rubber yesterday.
It came after world No.1 Ash Barty lost to Mladenovic in three sets earlier this afternoon. That’s second time in two weeks Mladenovic beat Barty.
It’s down to the doubles now. Regardless of the result, Perth people have been treated by some great tennis especially after the axing of Hopman Cup.

I think the crowds at federation cup were fantastic over the past 2 days drawing about 26k during the Weekend, despite the blistering conditions yesterday.
France have won the Fed Cup for the third time, beating Australia in the deciding doubles rubber. Australian women’s team was not able to emulate what the men did in 2003 (winning Davis Cup in Melbourne). There was only so much the home advantage could do.
With Fed Cup taking a new format next year it will be even harder for Australia to break the 46-year drought.

Australia is out of the Davis Cup finals after losing this morning’s quarter-final against Canada 2-1. Captain Lleyton Hewitt’s strange decision by resting Nick Kyrgios backfired with John Millman losing his singles match to Vasek Pospisil. Alex de Minaur continued his great form by coming from behind to beat Denis Shapovalov in three sets. Pospisil and Shapovalov regrouped to beat Peers and Thompson in two tight sets to reach the semi-final.
EDIT: it was reported later that Kyrgios had a collarbone injury so was unable to play.
Ash Barty capped off her stunning year by winning her third Newcombe Medal in a row.
2018 Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki has announced she will retire after next month’s championship.
