Well done!
I just woke up and saw Alcaraz won in 5 sets!
I thought he was gone when he lost the first set 1-6.
Amazing comeback!

Will be interesting to see what success Alcaraz has in future years, now that Federer is gone, and Nadal and Djokovic are in their twilight years.

I’m not sure if there are many other young tennis players with the same potential as Alcaraz coming through, he could potentially go on to equal/better Djokovic for the number of major titles won?

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. I’ve seen so much commentary similar to this today and people really are jumping the gun. So much can happen in the many years ahead of both his and other Tennis players careers. How often do we see players breakthrough and then disappear. I see it very unlikely that Alcaraz will just play through the next decade at the same level and just do it relatively unrivalled. Other good players will emerge, and I still think Djokovic has a couple more good years in him to win more slams.

Even some of the media headlines today have been a bit ridiculous. On The Project tonight they had the headline: ‘Djokovic dethroned’. Uhh yeah… right. The man with the most Grand Slam wins in history, has won 2/3 this year is “dethroned” because he lost a match. :man_facepalming:

Again Aussie tennis players have come up short at the US Open.
Well done Alex De Minaur and Rinki Hijikata for getting to the 2nd week :+1:

Bernard Tomic has been viciously assaulted on his home turf of the Gold Coast outside a casino. Say what you like about the larger than life former star since fallen from grace, but nobody deserves this, appalling:

Oddly, online suggests he was just at a tournament in Istanbul competing as recent as yesterday?

Now we have Djokovic in the US Open final and Alcaraz out. Djokovic in every Grand Slam final this year. Alcaraz only made the Wimbledon final.

It’s been widely reported that this took place 5 or 6 years ago. No action taken then or now.

Coco Gauff has claimed her first Grand Slam title, coming from one set down to beat Aryna Sabalenka 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the US Open women’s singles final. However, Sabalenka will be the new world No.1 tennis player after Iga Swiatek’s exit in the fourth round.

I’m sure this wont be her only Grand Slam win,she wants to be the next Venus and Serena Williams,or Sloane Stevens. It was the Williams sisters who led the break through for other African American female athletes in any sports, not just tennis

She’s been threatening for some time now, what a victory, could be the start of a new era.

And equalling Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam titles. Incredible.

I managed to catch the last set via 9Now this morning, the Joker (as I think I heard Jelena Dokic say) just stood up, when it mattered, the biggest occasions and moments and most of all his incredible psychology, determination and stamina with those famous baseline returns and running ability.

Also liked the wrap from the WWOS coverage, with Todd signing off and thanking the team indeed also for the whole year, while Jelena added her two cents to the crew as well, noting the Aussie Open the next major but the Davis Cup just around the corner.

Yeah that’s his nickname based on how the Americans pronounce his name

I remember once on-air Jim Courier and Bruce McAvaney were having a debate over the pronunciation of his surname, is it JOCK-ER-VITCH (Bruce) or JOKE-ER-VITCH (Jim)
