Its a chance for new favourites to emerge

The end of an era with Serena and Roger retiring from the game ,both GOATs in women’s and men’s tennis respectively. Not to mention the retirement of our own Ash Barty :confused:Good to see her there as a spectator

Rafa Nadal has lost to unseeded American Mackenzie McDonald in three sets, is this the end of Rafa at the AO?

Oh I hope not.

Cold comfort for the event, it’s existing favorites that sell tickets.

Maybe he’ll be the next big name GOAT to retire as he turns 37 this year. He’s had too many injuries in his long tennis career.

How refreshing to have young Aussie men doing well. No arrogance. No tantrums. Just exciting tennis.

I’ve been waiting for this to become a story. There should be more of a reaction from Australia. If an organisation is profiting off the back of anyone’s labour, they should be paid. Tennis Australia is not a charity.

It gets worse, the girls in The Australian girls choir, branded as ‘The Qantas Choir’ have to pay the AGC to be part of the national anthem at the finals.

I keep using the arrogance word for Tiley and Tennis Aus in this thread and this is just another example.

I’ve been enjoying Demon and Kokk. Two young men playing tennis

Is that a euphemism?

No, again off base. 14 year old me would of love to be on one of the big courts doing it for expreience.

Has nothing to do with Tiley/TA. Usual practice around the world. US Open are only paid because they 20-30 year olds

But again just keep pushing your agenda

How good is free labour for corporations?

lol I’m not the one pushing an agenda mate

Just my observation of what I see. You’re the only one in this thread constantly attacking it.

Why is that relevant? I had a job at a cinema when I was 14, which I loved, and it gave me much better experience than ballkid work would.

But it was paid, it would have been illegal otherwise, for a good reason. Why should working at the aus open be any different?

If my boss at the time asked me to work for free, 14yo me probabaly would have said yes, but that would have been all kinds of wrong.

Difference being one is a volunteer base and one is a paid job. It’s not all about the money (as much as it does help). And the tournament is only two weeks long, and the experience of being a ball kid is great, from the reports ive read. New friendships, get a few perks like being so close to a tennis super-star (and being on tv. lol) and get some free stuff like shirts and hats.

This.

How is any of this relevant? or make it any different to any other work?

There are many hospitality and retail jobs that fit that criteria; short term demand, enjoyable work, builds experience, making friends, perks. They still need to be paid at least a minimum wage.

Whether its right or not, happens elsewhere or not, gives experience or not, I also don’t see why anyone would feel the need to defend paying the ball kids… something. The prices they are charging for tickets, its not like they cant afford it.
