In 2017 when Djokovic was carrying an elbow injury. A lot of players were beating him that year ( he had to retire due to the injury in the Wimbledon QFs and didn’t play the 2nd half of the year).

Even though it’s only the Daily Mail, potentially some good news for Novak with Tennis Australia in talks with the Australian government to waive Djokovic’s 3 year ban

Doesn’t sound very credible. It’s not albaneses decision, it’s the immigration minister Andrew Giles.

I hope the ban is upheld. No special treatment for sports stars. Judging from his comments over the last few weeks he does not have any remorse, he thinks he’s the victim.

The argument that it would dilute the tournament is weak, this threats AO was ope of the best ever without Djokovic.

The new immigration minister was very sympathetic towards Novak’s situation last year on Twitter, so I am feeling pretty confident the ban will be overturned, especially now that there are no more vaccine mandates for international travellers.

And why should he have remorse, for what? The whole situation was ridiculous and embarrassing for the Morrison government.

Why on earth should he have remorse? I don’t like the guy but come on, he was treated horrificly.

How is this good news? he shouldnt be given special treatment because he can hit a ball

How is it special treatment? Everyone who gets the same ban is able to apply to get the ban waived. Just because you don’t like the guy doesn’t mean he should stay banned, especially now when you don’t have to be vaccinated to come here. He is not the criminal some people try to make him out to be.

Why should the ban be waived? He failed to follow a fairly simple requirement and was deported for his efforts.

How many other people who have been deported under similar circumstances have had their ban from re-entry revoked?

I would argue special treatment was already given him to given how badly the Australian government stuffed up the situation.

Good decision if it happens. I thought it was bit excessive.

Theres no doubt it was handled badly by the government, but does not excuse the original act.

Watch any episode of border security, Australia is clearly very willing to ruin families lives over a genuine mistake on an immigration form. What Djokovic did was much worse, he knew the rules and knew what he was doing, and tennis is hardly a noble cause. If he is let in, its a huge double standard.

Haha i cant tell you how funny your post is.

Djokovic shouldn’t be allowed into Australia to play in the Oz Open next year either if he’s not prepared to have his COVID vaccination.
I’m still disappointed after the result of the Wimbledon men’s final but I knew Nick Kyrgios would have to play his best tennis ever to beat Djokovic.

I am glad that Djokovic won it put Nick in his place. Fortunately, I can still like Djokovic and not agree with his anti-vaccine views and not take it personally. It is what it is in my opinion.

What is in your opinion?

Why, when there is no requirement now to have be vaccinated to come to Australia? Would make no sense.

Yes, rules have changed since January regarding vaccinated (and unvaccinated) tennis players. Will see what happens in 6 months times regarding players like Djokovic and Renata Voracova. The player Voracova is that Czech Doubles player that arrived in Australia and played in a Melbourne tournament before being deported also once the whole Djokovic saga came into light whom noone seems to remember.

Rules have changed and when Border Security mentions “may face a 3 year ban”, it is “may face”, not “will face”, so they could come down with little issues.
