Best weekend of tennis ever! So happy for Rafa, and so happy I’m still awake!

Fantastic game between Medvedev and Nadal. Nadal won his first Australian Open title since 2009 after beating Daniil Medvedev in 5 sets. Wowee.

Almost the 5 hour mark. Last time we were up this late was a decade ago

What a memorable two weeks we had after a tumultuous buildup. Barty ends our 44 year wait, the special K’s and ended with Nadal winning his 21st grand slam in an epic final which lasted for 5hr and 24min.

I went to bed just after midnight when the match was level at 2 sets all, because I was too tired. Only found out the result on radio this morning.

Novak Djokovic had heaped praise on both Barty and Nadal on social media overnight.

You have to look back to as far as 2005 when the Australian Open men’s champion wasn’t named Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic or Roger Federer.

Great Mens GF last Sunday night.Rafa is a legend.
I didn’t really want him to win but had to admire him for not giving up after being 2 sets down.He really wanted this win as this was only the 2nd Oz Open final that he has won.
At 35 will he be able to win another Grand Slam final, maybe if his body doesn’t let him down too much from now on.
He has now won one more Grand Slam (21) than both Federer and Djokovic (20 each).
Medvedev will win another Grand Slam for sure

Congratulations to Ashleigh Barty also for winning the Women’s final last Saturday :+1:

And the bill for Australia

Australia’s legal costs for the Novak Djokovic fiasco are estimated to be $360,000 – but it is not the final figure.

“Costs were awarded against the department in the first proceedings, costs were awarded for the department in the second.

“We’ll need to get the invoices and make the determination in consultation with Mr Djokovic’s lawyers as to how those two cost orders are sorted out.”

The whole “I’m not an anti-vaxxer, but….” Is sounding a lot like Pauline hansons “I’m not a racist, but…”

If every country that hosts an ATP Tour tournament demands all players to be fully vaccinated before they are granted entry, what will Djokovic do? Retire from tennis?

At some point, when the virus becomes endemic, I imagine the vaccine requirements will cease… but that could be 2-3 years away, who knows… I think Novak will probably change his mind by then, I think he is too competitive to just retire over it.
