What a mess!
They were granted exemptions because of who they are. Celebrities.
Did Australia mount this argument at all in court? I there is anything to this rumour they would have used this argument.
Difficult to prove unless you have evidence so inadmissible in court.
Wow… that’s a late one.
I’m assuming ABC and SKY will be the only networks taking it?
It might be late for you, but think about it this way. Holding it at midnight there means that it’ll be 2pm in his native Serbia, 1pm in London and 8am in New York.
I’m aware.
The media conference is by the Djokovic Family in Belgrade with Novak joining by video link. Being shown on BBC World with translation.
Revealed that he was on a tennis court training a few moments ago.
Mother and later uncle: “The biggest win in his career. Bigger than any of the grand slams.”
Expressions used: torture, harassment, freedom of thought, freedom of speech.
You Tube, in Serbian without translation.
They are aware that the federal government could still cancel his visa? Which is highly likely tomorrow.
In what was shown on BBC Djokovic was not seen yet.
He did tweet including from Rod Laver Arena.
Update: Seems he will not be seen on the media conference.
No acknowledgment of that.
Part transcript appearing here.
I’m really not sure how he’s going to be treated by the crowds. If he does get to stay.
Just now answering questions about the possibility of the visa still being cancelled. Mother says she is trying not to think about it.
The European media asked about Djokovic testing positive on the 16th and then being seen at events on the 17th and the media conference was abruptly adjourned.
It looks like the evidence of Djokovic having COVID doesn’t actually prove much. When you use the QR code, it’ll sometimes say negative and sometimes say positive. I’m not one for conspiracy, but something isn’t right here.
Seems to hinge on this:
“It has the quality of this ex post facto view. We have these people saying ‘look, getting in touch with your lawyers is really not going to help any of this so why don’t we just get it done’?”
This was the point that broke the government’s case.
Ex post facto is sharp language for any judge. Within the Latin lies a thinly veiled suggestion that Djokovic was stitched up
Basically the judge saw it that border force deliberately trapped Novak.
That’s kinda huge.
No, they tried to rush a decision thinking it wouldn’t have consequences. Djokovic’s release has basically come down to a failure to follow proper (and an agreed) process
Exactly. They didn’t expect he would fight back and now they are reaping what they sowed.
So what are we thinking? Will Hawke pull the trigger?
