WIN’s deal with Nine. They’ve given up their fight for regional independence. It is no more and they will simply try to keep the remaining operation profitable.
Probably. They wouldn’t have had much of a choice if you think about it. Who else would they have sided with if they weren’t happy with WIN’s scrubbing of their brand?
I wondered if the owners of the ten network were that keen to work with SCA again more so than with WIN?
I suspect there’s much more to that than meets the eye. I wondered if there was much more that have happened behind the scenes that we didn’t know about that led to the nine network working with WIN again?
Maybe SCA did speak to the ten network behind the nine network back before the March 2021 decision to change networks? I’m very suspicious.
Plus Nine have said they need fewer affiliate contracts with WIN due to WIN having a larger presence nationally.
A follow-on from that is whoever is the 3rd network in a joint-venture area (such as Tasmania) gets a smaller percentage of revenue (which is 10 again after it was Nine for the last 5 years).
Interesting that 10 HD WA isn’t showing a watermark during Ascot coverage today. I wonder if it’s clean for all sports coverage? Remnants of their previous arrangement under the WIN brand? Surprised this far into their affiliation agreement that they aren’t prepared for clean 10 feeds.
Also, for some reason the coverage is in upscaled SD via WIN.
Looking at the coverage further; no dirty 10 promos are coming through, so it’s as though WIN are treating it like breakaway programming independent of the 10 schedule. I think The Races WA/RWWA/WA TAB are providing the coverage to 10, so perhaps they’re the ones sending WIN a feed and it’s bypassing whatever systems they have in place for taking 10’s schedule. Explains the lack of watermark, upscaled SD and no 10 content during breaks.
Yep, no watermark for the A-League on 10 BOLD WA either. So it looks like they (still) haven’t prepared themselves for clean content. I assume it’s the same situation in other WIN 10 markets.
Just had a look at SCA’s 10 Townsville and it looks the same as metro, unless they too are getting a clean feed and are just doing a better job than WIN!
Nah, SCA’s playout is done at NPC. I mentioned what SCA are doing just incase they too were adding their own 10 watermark to sports because that would explain where the problem is in the chain. But I can’t tell as it looks exactly like 10 metro’s watermark.
From memory, 10 has always given their affiliates clean sports programming, which means it should be up to the affiliate to add in an appropriate watermark. This goes way back to when Southern Cross Central was showing Ten AFL matches and they’d use their own SCTV 10 watermark. Plus countless examples of Ten sport on WIN WA with just mappy in the corner. Then there was the recent Fox Sports A-League deal with 10 which saw WIN using their own homemade Fox Sports/10 watermark.
Still no watermark on 10 West. I’m not complaining, but I don’t think Network 10 would be overly thrilled that their sports programming isn’t being branded properly.
Don’t think they’d particularly care really, it’s not their asset anyway. WIN could still brand the channels if they wanted to, but have chosen not to as a cost-saving measure in line with the Nine agreement.
