But Ten Northern NSW (WIN) do not transmit from here? Did they used to transmit here but shut it down? Or did they not go that far south?
AFAIK a number of Gosford/Central Coast sites never had a regional Ten relay even back in NRTV days, they just had Ten relays from SydneyâŚ
Only Wyong had the NRTV transmitter.

Yeah they were licensed (or allowed a license - the frequency was allocated) for Bouddi and Gosford but NRTV at the time (nor subsequent owners) never bothered to take it up. Obviously figured it wasnât worth their while.
Itâs a bit odd that Prime7 had Gosford and Bouddi up then, they donât have much Central Coast advertising on it at all, 95% of it is the same ads as Newcastle, but in a different order.
9NBN has some local Central Coast ads and news to get better use of the investment, but still quite a bit of Newcastle content too.
WIN10 at Wyong is 100% Newcastle right down to the â10 Newcastleâ LCN name,
Well I guess at aggregation NBN was effectively the incumbent, Prime came in and were attempting Newcastle local news so figured they might have some relevance, and NRTV were only broadcasting news out of Coffs. Being also âstuckâ with the Ten affiliation obviously came to the conclusion that the lower half of the Central Coast, being so close to Sydney - and competing with the metro stations, in a new market, wasnât worth the investment. The Wyrrabalong site covers all the northern area up to the southern edges of Lake Macquarie so with Gosford pretty much only an infill for the Narara valley area and Gosford itself and Bouddi serving areas south of there they just didnât set up there. I moved from Long Jetty to Narara in 2002 and was a bit miffed I could no longer pick up Ten Newcastle! 
Obviously by then though NRTV was long gone - I used to like their identsâŚ
Anyway lets face it, most people on the Central Coast - especially the southern half - are more than likely watching Sydney stations - or NBN. Funny though, where my Dad use to live at Woongarrah he could only get the Newcastle stations. He was just behind a hill that blocked the signal from Wyrrabalong. That annoyed me too when I went over there lol.
Yes, thereâs a LOT of houses around even Wadalba and Hamlyn Terrace that can only get Newcastle as well⌠as well as Bluehaven and Budgewoi. Iâm a bit surprised no infill site was set up to cater for those areas and Woongarrah - and/or that Wyrrabalong got a height or power increase to fill in those areas better. Lisarow up to Kangy Angy is another blackspot.
even sadder thing is NRTV Evening News was the best quality broadcast of the lot.
Peter Hanrahan did a great job and I was sad when it was axed.
Though NRTV Evening News didnât have local opt outs like NBN News did, meaning everyone got the same local content, which naturally was very heavily Northern Rivers focussed. At least in 1992 before it got the chop outside of its home markets.
But I agree it was well made. Prime Local News was good too, I preferred Brett Lavaring over Murray Finlay.
All local news bulletins were much better back then.
Meant to add, I recall that Peter Hanrahan did some reporting for NBN News for a little while after the Ten North Coast bulletin was axed in 1995.
And later on in the 1990s, there was the matter that Telecasters had an interest both in the metro Tens (with how the Ten Group was structured at the time) and in Ten Northern NSW - and given Ten Northern wasnât doing any local news by then, itâs not like it wouldâve mattered too much to them which one you watched anyway. So there would not have exactly been the impetus to put separate transmitters there after the fact either.
Almost the complete opposite to how NBN saw an opening in the expanding bits of the Central Coast in the 2000s, grabbing that larger office in Erina Heights and going all âNBN Central Coast Televisionâ branding in the region. But itâs a lot easier to do that if you already have a presence in the greater region beyond being a rebroadcaster, which NRTV/10Nth certainly didnât have and PrimeâŚwell certainly could have had but then chose not to.
WINâs Northern NSW channels will be implementing the change to MPEG4 from mid November.
10HD (Channel 50) and Sky News Regional (Channel 53) are already delivered in the newer technology (mpeg4). If you already receive these channels, then you should have no problem throughout this transition.

Not a bad changeover message at all, pretty clear and looks like they went to a bit of effort.
Wouldnât surprise me if 10Bold goes to HD. Hopefully 10Peach too.

Nicely made announcement though I would have said âin the coming months we are upgrading some channelsâ rather than âsome free to air television networks will upgrade their channelsâ.
Interesting that the 10 News First title card that was briefly shown appeared to be the Southern Cross âlocal updateâ version. I assume WIN still run WIN News updates in NNSW and havenât changed them to generic 10?
Itâs an obvious answer to that. WIN News brand does not change by whoever national programme supply it has; otherwise, you will force all Nine regional affiliates WIN owns to brand the news as generic Nine News as well. So far, management kept WIN News the way it should be.
