Is there a reason 10 airs the second NBL match on 10 drama in WA?
Isnât that what happens in the east too?
Donât they move it because itâd clash with 10 News?
Perth doesnât that that problem
No reason at all. Just how 10 works.
Itâs like sport has to be off the main channel or something.
Just for symmetry probably? Makes it easier than having different promos, mentioning a second line of 10 (WA) etc.?
maybe 10 should just air the UFC Prelims and big events held in Australia, and if they can a magazine program for the sport.
Surf Life Saving on 10 Drama
This is the first time the Iron Series is shown on 10. Previously it was on SBS and Fox Sports.
Some of you may also remember 10 showed the Uncle Tobyâs Super Series in the 1990s.
Extra info for round 1 in Newcastle
Had a chat with a couple of the crew at 10 Sport up at PolyTec Stadium on Friday during the Matildas v Ferns matchup. It was suggested the A-Leagues have zero profitability - driving barely any subscribers - unlike Stan and the Champions League - while the internationals were profitable. They have apparentely inked a new deal for the latter - I must have missed some news on this front. The team expect the A-Leagues to be ditched beyond this deal in favour of a gung-ho bid for the NRL.
Make of it what you will.
Champions League on P+ as with the UK and US. We will probably get CBS Sports Gozalo commentary and a match on 10 Bold
You probably wonât.
Stan still have 1 and three quarter seasons to go at the very least.
So will the Champions League be on Stan or P+ from 2027-28 onwards in Australia?
UEFAâs media rights company have not opened up the tenders on the next rights cycle as yet for Australia etc (it probably wonât happen until some time next year).
And I imagine given that it has driven growth to the platform and is now coupled with the Premier League following the Optus Sport acquisition, they will be very reluctant to give it up.
UEFA tend to do a blind bidding process and the highest bid gets the rights. There really isnât the broader negotiating process that occurs with local rights or large rights like the Olympics.
You are right - but I think (from what Iâve heard) UEFA got a little burned by the Sportsflick saga, so there is some due diligence.
So this was a deal done mid-way through last year which extended the rights through 2028:
Iâll pull this over here because it seemed more relevant. I think Ten are in a very difficult position with this. For reference, the current deal is $200 million/5 years. I wouldnât imagine that there would be a lot of interest in expanding that number much further, especially given they appear to have turned down the three-year extension option on the current deal. They may very well get it back on the relative cheap and still be able to make a run at the NRL rights.
On the other hand, that money might very well be the difference in a negotiation with the NRL. Of course then you run the very real risk of being left with basically nothing.
FA wonât like selling the A-Leagues separate from the national team and AFC rights
They wonât, but they donât have any control over it. The A-Leagues rights are negotiated by the APL, not Football Australia. With the APL in financial trouble, they will probably be looking mostly at the money rather than the particulars of who. Certainly staying combined with the national team rights holder would be an advantage, but only if the finances are right.
Ahhhh SportsflickâŚthe former home of Serbian rugby league and illegal drag-racing live from Riverstone. ![]()
I canât see Ten wanting A-League rights. APL run the place like a clown show. FA arenât are behind, but at least the international side is humming along OK. Whoever wants the A-League will get it for a song.
