This wasn’t exclusive though
I doubt they’re even paying anything except an advertising split/contra for the NBL…

According to the one report we had about the 2027 WWC rights from the AFR (which I flagged when it was published), Optus, SBS and Nine were all involved in the negotiations.

I wonder why Brisbane is excluded, as advance guide shows it will also get the Kings-Hawks match live on 10 Peach.
The first ever Christmas Day game aired last year on the main channel of 10 (in Sydney at least). But it failed miserably in the ratings. So the move to having it on 10 Peach makes sense. Also, that’s where the whole season has been airing.
what advance guides show this?
It was first posted at TV Central’s advance guide page on Sunday morning.
However, according to 10 Play’s online guide, Brisbane will miss out on this NBL game.
is it because of Neighbours airing at 6.30pm as to why Brisbane isn’t getting the game.
I’d think so.
10 Peach in NT will also miss out on the Christmas Day NBL game because of Neighbours at 6.30pm. The time difference means the game will start just after 6pm in NT.
then they should put it on Bold, there must be a contractual reason as to why its only relegated to Peach.
In early November, Neighbours was moved around on 10’s main channel because of the Melbourne Cup commitments (and i think a car racing game recently). Surely they can do the same on 10Peach on Christmas night for the NBL?
10’s NBL Christmas Day coverage finished at 9.43pm.
Hope 10 gains exclusive NBL as well as Boomers and FIBA comps to grow the game. FIBA WC has never been on a commercial channel.
Not sure 10 would be the best fit for the NBL, since the NBL would end up competing with the A-League every week for at least the next 2 years. Unless they put the A-League on the backburner, which wouldn’t be the best sign of their commitment to sport, considering the NBL has ended up on the late night schedule the last 2 times they had the rights after 10 gave up on the league.
As for the FIBA rights, the World Cups on FTA would be good for the game, but the regional stuff would rate horribly (mostly Australia beating up teams by 50 points).
The most recent women’s World Cup in which the Opals came 3rd in Sydney was on ESPN
