Honestly, what’s the point of this at the all glorious slot of 10.30pm on a dead Friday night of all nights?

Why not a bit earlier during the week after their 8.30 shows or at 7.30 on Friday?

The Road to the Melbourne Cup has been airing at oddly times in recent years. This seems to be no different.

Agree that its odd that its scheduled to air on at 10.30 (plus the usual overrun) on a Friday night.

10 usually run this show on Friday nights for a couple of weeks then on the Monday night there is an episode at an earlier slot on Monday the day before the race.

Sounds correct, Saturday coverage from 1-4pm AEDT with the Sprint race at 3pm.

In the past they covered MotoGP practice and all qualifying sessions and no build up on Sunday??

Would appear that Foxtel, being the ‘master’ rights holder, has gone to 10 and said you can only have Moto2 Qualifying and the Sprint Race on the Saturday and the Moto2 and MotoGP races on Sunday live.

I thought 10 were paying “big bucks” for the access to this prestigious event on MotoGP calendar. I hope its different next season.

Originally 10 had 10am to 4pm on Saturday and 1030am to 3pm on Sunday on their website.

:rofl::rofl: 10 would be paying peanuts for this extremely niche event. It’s a shitty simulcast deal because of the anti siphoning rules.

Fox own the rights and sell the dregs because they have to. 10 will not be back in the sport game in this decade if ever again. No sport wants to sell to them despite the big money they put on the table. And most sports do not want to sell u less fox is involved. It’s a rigged system that’s a disaster for sport in this country.

is 750k peanuts for MotoGP, compare to 6m for F1

Now do you know this is what they are paying?

I think it’s peanuts compared to their unsuccessful $6b 10 year AFL bid. 750k is nothing if these figures you quote are accurate.

MotoGP is a good example of a sport that frankly shouldn’t be on the list (and is only there for the locally held event) - FTA has shown limited interest in the sport.

The MotoGP qualifying is on in the morning (like 10.50-11.30), and Ten would’ve been very unlikely to take that at that hour… it’d likely make more sense to show that on delay than the Moto2 qualifying, followed by the sprint race (and I suspect they will).

The qualifying in the morning determines the grid for both races, so there is likely some extended period for tweaking permitted between getting a qualifying run for what might be in full-race mode, and the sprint.

Seems very similar to the (somewhat controversial) decision to put F1 full-race qualifying on Friday when there’s a sprint race on, so they can focus entirely on the sprint race (which in that code, has a separate qualifying session) on Saturday.

And they might not have it after that date.

Formula one and apple are currently discussing a rights deal that is worldwide!

Also will be interesting to see how that would work here in Australia under our current FTA rights deal with F1 for Melbs GP.

If this were to come to fruition, I could see part of the deal being that Apple can sub-licence rights where appropriate.
