I wish it was true, it would be a good event to have.

It was confirmed overnight that Melbourne would host the third race of 2024 Formula One season, on March 24.

According to Sunday Herald Sun’s Fiona Byrne, Francesca Cumani will not fly to Melbourne for 10’s coverage of this year’s Cup carnival, as the racing presenter is pregnant with her third child who is due in December. However Francesca may still appear via video from England, as was the case in 2020.

This is the most recent pic from Francesca’s Instagram, taken at Royal Ascot last weekend.

Did this last year too yeah? It’s an external production.

I think they did it last year for the first time (from memory). Yes, its being done from the external production.

Hadn’t it been done before then? From memory, it was also shown on Bein sports.

The first time Ten had showed it was in 2013, per Destination NSW release.

Last year they showed the Sydney Marathon live and then they also showed a highlights package of the rest of the Sydney Running Festival on 10 Bold the week after.

The Running Festival brand’s been dropped this year - possibly as part of the marathon being accepted as a candidate to potentially become a “major” in 2 or 3 years time - but the 21k, 10k and 3.5k runs still remain (under the Sydney Marathon name), so nothing saying they won’t do the latter package this year too.

Ten of course were also the long-time home of the Sydney City to Surf, but now the numbers for that have swelled, it’s impossible to package that into a live 90 minutes like they used to - particularly, no way to show the elites at the same time as the Back of the Pack, which used to be the appeal, as the gap between the two starts is now two hours (7.40am vs 9.40am), rather than ten minutes (10am vs ~10.10am) as it used to be in the 1990s.

Nine as owners of the SMH (and thus the City to Surf) have chosen instead to partner it with 2GB radio rather than the TV station [and Nova is also a partner].

There was an ad towards the end of Neighbours (on 10 Peach) tonight, advertising the NBL. The ads say that Sunday Hoops is returning, and looks like that 10Peach will be showing games on Sundays only, starting from Sunday October 1.

Sporty Spice Mel C To Headline Melbourne Cup Carnival’s Palooza

Superstar Sporty Spice Mel C has been announced as the headline act at Melbourne Cup Carnival’s Palooza festival.

This is the first time in almost 25 years that the Spice Girls singer has been Down Under.

“It’s so good to be coming back to Australia - the atmosphere there is electric, and I could not be happier to return after more than two decades,” she said in a statement.

“I’ve always been a big fan of racing and obviously love a music festival so to mix the two and perform at such an iconic Australian event is so exciting. It’s going to be an epic day and I can’t wait!”

Victoria Racing Club CEO Steve Rosich said the club is delighted to welcome Mel C to the Palooza stage for TAB Champions Stakes Day.

“Palooza will deliver the ultimate festival experience and we couldn’t think of a better headline act on TAB Champions Stakes Day than Melanie C. She’s an all-star and we look forward to welcoming her to Flemington.”

Jax Jones and Topic will be supporting Mel C on the final day of Cup Week, while patrons will be able to see the likes of Crooked Colours, Late Nite Tuff Guy, Groove City, Running Touch and Sneaky Sound System and others over the four days of the festival.

The 2023 Melbourne Cup Carnival is kicking off on Saturday, 4 November, and will be free to air on Network 10 for those unable to make it down to Flemington during Cup week.

That’s not exactly true. Mel C was here starring in the Arena Tour of Jesus Christ Superstar in 2013.

And indeed, they will be doing this again this year, 2pm next Sunday, again on 10 Bold.

Ten used to have such a strong brand in Sports Tonight. In the absence of having any significant sport on their channel, wouldn’t a great way to fake it til you make it , be to use sports tonight as either a 6pm or 9pm show wrapping up sports from Australia and around the world? Surely a 6pm sports tonight would rate less than their 6pm news now?
It could be repeated during the day as well. Would be a decent way to get people associating sports with ten again and won’t hurt them when it comes to bidding for the next big sporting rights?!?

Been there, done that. The way people consumed sports back in the glory days of ST has change drastically. Not to mention no one wanted a bite of it when it was rebooted on a weekly basis in 2018.

Initially it had the prime slot of following Masterchef on Sunday. Still didn’t work.

Their post 8.30 shows work better than whatever they show at 6pm anyway so it’s not like Sports Tonight will magically do better even if they aired at 6.
