That’s what you get for non-exclusive rights.

you’re never going to get exclusive rights to racing

Not anymore, but Tim is living in the past when he was involved with 10’s coverage and they had exclusive FTA rights, no streaming competition and no marquee racedays interstate.

Tim seems very very salty (and he could rightly be so) at his axing. He needs to pull back a bit though on the constant bashing of his old employer.

plus these days there’s growing sentiment against horse racing on animal welfare grounds as well as community concern around the gambling side. Both are going to keep viewers away whereas 10 or even 5 years ago these were less an issue…

Sunday Herald Sun entertainment reporter Fiona Byrne is discussing Channel 10’s Melbourne Cup Carnival coverage on 3AW Afternoons today. One caller thought that Ten’s coverage has improved from last year with the addition of Eddie McGuire and Francesca Cumani, but is still not as good as Seven’s coverage when they used to have the rights to the Cup. Whereas, another caller didn’t like the coverage complaining that when a race was on in Melbourne, Ten would interview someone in Sydney.

I want to know whether the caller knows that races at Flemington and elsewhere in Melbourne are different deals or not and whether they are getting confused by this.

So 10 had a preview show for Derby Day and will also air preview shows for Cup Day (tonight) and Champions Stakes Day (Friday), but won’t have one for Oaks Day. Weird.

Also, the Melbourne promo for the Cup Day coverage says the telecast will start at 7am. That’s a way to entice people to watch Studio 10.

The promo up here in Sydney also said 7am start. I’m sure people will recoil in horror when they tune in and stumble across the horrors of studio 10.

Is 10 News First Breakfast on tomorrow or is Studio 10 running from 7am?

No breakfast news tomorrow.

The 10/Paramount marquee is very impressive. This is something Seven didn’t do in the last 10 years of their coverage.

It does make me wonder how Paramount can invest the money into a marquee but can’t invest back into the 10s News department.

They showed an aerial shot earlier

Have they provided a tour of it online somewhere?

There was a lot of things 7 didn’t do. Their coverage was no frills. If you look at things shot for short, graphics, the team, the coverage was sub par. 10s coverage in the 90s was arguably better. 10 covered it for 25 years before seven got their mitts onto it.

To be honest, 10s coverage this year has been good. I would now put it ahead of Sevens. It’s only taken 4 years.

10 have this for one more year yes? unless they opt to renew which I can’t see happening.
