Agree with the rest of what you said. The NBL should abandon the centralisation of commentary next season - the authenticity that on-site commentaries provide can’t be replicated nor duplicated by calling from some studio.
The Herald Sun is reporting that Eddie McGuire will host the Melbourne Cup coverage for 10 this year.
Is Eddie not tied specifically to Nine/Fox?
I also assume this is to show 10 has commitment to sport with the upcoming AFL rights?

Odd… I thought Eddie had an exclusive contract with Fox Sports and couldn’t present / host any other sports broadcast on any other networks.
Eddie’s contract at Fox wasn’t renewed. He is a glorified free agent. I would expect this would have no effect at all on his current hosting duties with Hot Seat and Footy Classied for channel 9
Caro questioned Ed on this last night on Classified and he was very cagey in his response.

Because I am highly of the view that 10 will get the rights. The media articles circulating are backing up my view as well. If you don’t like it, bad luck.

It’s a big get for 10 if McGuire does host the Melbourne Cup Coverage. Full circle indeed. Which means, that 10 realised that they have no big names to host the event, hence why they poached McGuire?
Could take or leave Eddie as host of the Melbourne Cup, but having him as the face of a potential AFL bid for 10 would be awesome. I miss having him call games on Fox Footy this year - he is very underrated as a commentator.
Quarters would be more than fine hosting the Melbourne cup - seems more about positioning for the footy.
Does McGuire’s production company have anything to do with Ten’s Melbourne Cup coverage? I know they produce horse racing shows for the racing.com channel.

they were discussing it on Footy Classified this week about 10 and AFL. How Caro Wilson believes they are a stalking horse and that Eddie McGuire’s name is attached to the 10/Paramount bid.
In the rare moments where he is naturally calling the game he’s more than adequate imo. The problem I have with him is he constantly tries to manufacture excitement which leads to barracking of the underdogs or the trailing team.
It just seems so odd that he’s possibly going to be on 10 hosting the Melbourne Cup this year. He has hosted racing on 9 back in the nineties though iirc.
