Who currently has the NBA rights in Australia. Would think that the way ten went after as much soccer as they could get, they would have their eye on that as well to become the home of basketball.
ESPN has television rights. And it’s an easy one for them to filter out worldwide as they hold a portion of US domestic rights.
I think One might have had a pack of games back in the day.
The other thing about a lot of NBA consumers is that they have League Pass as that’s such a strong product that I’m not sure there’d be a great demand for NBA on FTA.
Tabcorp also have rights - but their arrangement is odd, they have the rights to show NBA TV in Tabcorp venues (they do similar with MLB and NFL)
It will be a completely in-house NBL production.
They are sold by Basketball Australia, not by the NBL.
I don’t know exactly. I’m just making assumptions based on what has gone on.
Yea good point. That watch and bet proposition.
And on their app?
Not sure whether it’s the same as the in-venue or not
NBL will commence November 18 meaning November 21st will be first matches on 10 Peach.
SBS showed 2 NBA games a week on Viceland last year, with the NBL gone I can see that investment lapsing.
10 should have a highlights program of the round and maybe ask ESPN to simulcast their panel show on Peach. When Ten last had NBL they had 1 or 2 panel programs.
Let’s get not too excited. All the coverage will be produced in house by NBL TV and 10 will just be a relay of that.
They’ll corss promote a bit more on 10 News but that will be it I’m guessing.
Let’s just be happy they’re getting different rights to things now and see how it evolves.
It is a never-ending cycle of different strategies with 10 when it comes to sport and news. Absolutely hopeless but when they execute their plans, it’s usually good.
maybe its possible for Ten to complement NBL with NBA, just like when Ten had both during some of the contract with Basketball Australia for the NBL.
I actually think SBS contract with NBA ran out at the end of the season just gone.
10 Peach could have basketball content all day on Sunday.
That panel show you’re referring to is produced by NBL Media
Was this the one called “SBS Courtside”? Was that just a highlights show for the NBA, but hosted by Australians? 10 Peach could do the some, couldnt they?
yes it was SBS Courtside. 10 could call it Sunday Hoops and have someone from sport dept to host it. Lucy Zelic?
That is what I suggested similar to how Channel Nine did it with Bill Baxter
but it will have to be outside of the NBL simulcast, say from 5-5.30pm or 12.30-1pm.
A big summer of sport on 10.
