Sorry but I disagree. 10 have a history of having a good presentation and then reverting back to old habits.
As I mentioned above, they had a logo launch and the logo as it was still has such untapped potential. But now they have decided to revert back to their era of circle pulsing which was done to death as well as their outline emphasis.
I think there is a lack or creativity within the Viz team there and the presentation loop that I shared above from the logo launch in comparison proves this.
Viz is the program that plays out sophisticated graphics - like the program return supers, News graphics etc. there are Viz Artists, but these specialise in taking motion graphic designs and making them compatible.
Maybe not at 10, but I can tell you you’re wrong about others some have multiple roles under the title
And yes I’m not that much of an idiot that I don’t know about VizRT…. I’m well aware. Just remember not all networks are the same. Just like some use certain programs for sales, production, engineering etc, it’s not a one size fits all.
Elsewhere Viz Artist can actually be a Visual Designer and not always fully related to VizRt - Viz becomes a more a role nickname.
Anywho. Simple point remains that whoever made these idents needs to evolve the presentation of 10 not bloody revert back to old design concepts.
Graphic designers are a pretty sensitive bunch when it comes to titles… I’ve found most people outside live-render or maybe quick turn-around production workflows would hate being called a “viz artist”.
I see your point and I agree… but also don’t.
10’s design team have a habit of grabbing a shape and using that as their base design to an excruciating degree. That is the trend that you’ve picked up on (it’s a bit exhausted).
However, the shapes change each time and the design still evolves - in this case with very strong animation and gradients.
Software and designers are certainly a lot better than ever before, but the production costs of 3D are still pretty high - the skills are more specialised and time production costs higher.
Flat/2.5D design in after effects is always going to be cheaper, easier and faster to work with and update, and more likely to be be done internally with existing artists who can work across multiple platforms.
Out of all the FTA networks I still think 10’s presentation is up there as one of the best… however, the question has to be asked - are the resources warranted?
9 & 7 have some abhorrent promo design, yet their market share is much higher. Does the average viewer care?
