And then they secretly bring in the three former hosts from Melbourne??
I donât think 10 will want will want to move the 5pm news because the ratings are increasing for it. They could move primetime to 7pm but that doesnât really make sense?
@BJT2 means extend the news to 6:30pm, not move it to start at 6:30pm.
That makes more sense now thanks.
I remember reading that she was previously based in Sydney before moving to Melbourne for ABC News Breakfast, so possibly agreed to move back to Sydney for 10 News+, but hopefully now it looks like 10 News+ is DOA, at least in its current format, 10 will consider replacing it with a new Melbourne production and rehire some of the out of work Melbourne crew who lost their jobs when The Project was axed.
Correct. Iâm not saying this is the long term answer, but I think this is the best solution for now.
5.00-6.00 10 News: Local (1 hours bulletin)
6.00-6.30 10 News: Local (30 minute bulletin)
6.30-7.00 New Format Show (with Georgia Tunny)
7.00-7.30 Deal or No Deal
The local news at 6.00pm rated okay 18 months ago. From memory it was able to sustain 200-250k from its lead in. Just redeploy an investigation report (5 mins) into the bulletin to add a bit of new content from the 5.00pm edition.
At the moment. I would keep her away from the 10 News + brand (and the Sydney team).
There is currently a working studio in Melbourne, plus a number of âexperienced producersâ left over from The Project that can put together a pilot for a new lighter 30 minute show.
And just axe a whole bunch of Producers and Reporters that 10 hired in Sydney for 10 News+? Thatâs madness.
I like this idea. Intertwining the investigative stories into the main 10 News brand would be a good way to go.
Doubt theyâd do this out of Melbourne after spending $$ on updating the Sydney set.
What a disaster this has been.
If they could get Nick Cody to join Georgie, I think theyâd be onto a winner. A more entertainment, comedy, tonight show vibe - no news. A completely new show really. 10 trying to compete with news in the 6pm hour is never going to work. However, Iâd still leave it at an hour with 4-5min local news inserts at 6 and 6:30.
Open the show with Nick doing a monologue. Use Angela Bishop for award shows, red carpets etc. Steal/recreate the best comedy bits from The Project. Guests could be whoever is here promoting something, a comedy based interview if it is someone more serious (think Hard Chat/Cunk), a comedian (who could also do a stand-up segment). It wouldnât need to be live, giving them more flexibility and more opportunities to incorporate âliveâ performances (they could also record Friday episodes on a Thursday for example). All these segments would be more successful online as well I imagine.
I know this is wishful thinking, as it would require hiring comedy writers etc, but I canât imagine the journalists they hired were cheap.
If they must keep Amelia, Denham and the rest of the journalists, they could front 10âs version of 60 Minutes/Spotlight at 8:30 Wednesdays (as well as submitting stories for 10 News). Denham or Amelia could also host a reboot of WANTED following the reality show on a Sunday. These could both be year round shows that fill two important slots.
Itâs such an ugly update though. Some of the elements are alright, but all together itâs a mess.
I agree that itâs not perfect.
The worst part is during the 5pm news when they use the three vertical screens. Looks shocking with how this new part of the set overlaps the third screen on the right.
Itâs pretty simple and cheap - recreate the BBCâs One Show. Get Pam Barnes in or someone who oversaw The Circle and try to recreate that energy and tone. Make it a bit funny and loose - live unpredictable TV is the only thing linear broadcast TV has over streaming. Do it from Melbourne. Give people a lighter alternative when they get home that isnât the misery that 7 and 9 forces down your throats.
Letâs not forget Ten used the Circle as part of itâs royal wedding coverage a million years ago Royal Wedding: TEN offers light-hearted coverage with Fitzy | TV Tonight They were onto such a winner with this warm, female led, smart, funny and non-toxic vibe. Unfortunately reactionaries up in Sydney ruined it.
No entertainment and fuzzy cat rescue stories, what is Australiaâs problem with actual deep journalism we do have intellectual people. I sincerely hope that the show does not morph into what is being suggested above and that Georgie Tunny simply does hard hitting stories and contribute to providing Australianâs with this 10 news + format and making minor tweaks
Nothing, but there is not much demand for it at 6.00 six nights a week. A later timeslot and less frequently would be more appealing.
The lead story last night was a car getting struck by lightning and a shark being sighted in Bondi:
Where is the deep journalism? This wouldnât have felt out of place on The Project?
Unfortunately it appears that people apart of the show are taking on the criticism from these forums and wider articles about people wanting that fluffy news hereâs hoping the producers stick to there guns and watch this show blossom away from the haters.
Did you think the same of Negus?
Unfortunately the show isnât rating by sticking to their guns either.
I feel personally it was too rushed as it was .
Iâve given up , the changes that have been so far and planning is way too late for me.
Donât hate the show , but itâs execution has been poor.
The plummeting ratings might have something to do with it, too
