Ten News +

Denham mispronounced Leongatha - only a town that’s been in the news for months and months.

But 10 have tried Game Shows in the early evening

Family Feud, Pointless, Name Game, DonD - FF did fine and DonD is serviceable but I think they need to change tack or pick a better game show formats (Wheel of Fortune or a Sale of the Century? - with a more engaging format, especially if it’s a format with a returning winner).

He also mispronounced “on” - saying “own call doctor” instead of “on call doctor”. Perhaps that one was an autocue issue though.

The fact is that Ten can’t compete with 7 and 9 with News. They need something that is a point of difference. Deal was doing far better at 6pm than 10News+ is (and is doing slightly better at 7pm despite a horrible lead in). A gameshow hour might not rate through the roof but at this point if Ten could have a relatively cheap show to produce that can give them 300k+ it would be an improvement, to then continue building with something at 7pm.

Now imagine if DonD actually had a good lead-in at 7pm.

What the cost ratio on that? They probably looked at that. Format rights, prize money and large studio production costs would probably more than the cost of producing the low rating news.

There are a lot of factors here that we may not be privy to.

Lots of commentary on young audiences. 10 no longer program for 16-39. That audience no longer exists in large numbers for linear. So the audience for the project is no longer there.

All these years people wishing and dreaming of the project’s demise has now come to fruition and the outcome has been a disaster. Nothing 10 puts here will ever rate. That’s including expensive game shows.

They’ve gone for low rating news that has content output that can be monetized elsewhere other than linear.

Looks like they’ve ditched the headlines after first three stories. Good run down tonight; exclusive on a lucky escape from a lightning strike, interview with Qantas CEO and a recap on mushroom lady’s potential appeal

Only 20 people watching the YouTube live stream.

2000 currently watching ABC News Live on YouTube.

Alright so what’s everyone’s prediction.
How badly does 10 News+ get beat in ratings on Origin night tonight.
I reckon it’ll struggle into the 100Ks at 107K

Why would it? There is no overlap. Can’t see the numbers being much different.

More people would probably be tuned to Nine IMO.

There’s 6 other states and territories though.

I think 140k

Three of which Seven generally wins at 6pm anyway (SA, TAS, WA).

Remember that next werk when they boast about a 25% rise in YouTube viewers because an extra 5 people tuned in. Probably from the gallery.

According to Inside Mail, an overhaul of this show is in the works. Shorter episodes, warmer stories, and a punchier format, with Georgie Tunny as the new host.

Tunny has begun filming test segments and could begin as early as August.

Peak 10.

Yes but 10 went ultra cheap and now have unsustainable numbers in the 6-7pm timeslot. It is impacting their entire schedule. If they want it to lift 100-200k they need to put a bit more money into something that is not just News that can’t compete against the other networks. I don’t know about rights etc but gameshows are pre-recorded, and months worth of episodes can be filmed in a couple of weeks. You go with something like The Price is Right and most of the prizes are sponsored too, you can even extend episodes out for longer than 30minutes.

This sounds better already. If it stays at 6pm they could keep the 10News + name (as it rolls on from the news) but I’d suggest that they go with a 30minute show at 7pm and rebranding/relaunching it completely.

Sounds like local news will revert back to 6.30 with 10 News + (or what every they go with) will move back to to a 6.30pm start. I wouldn’t be surprised if Georgie Tunny is doing this out of Melbourne with maybe a few former producers hired from The Project to put something together.
