I have no idea how you got to that after what’s been said. The Project is dead and won’t come back. Maybe a panel format show but that’s as close it would get to it.

I think the stop gap will be to begin prime time at 7, with original recipe 10News extended to 6:30 and DonD at 6:30 and have that arrangement for the rest of the year (would be a good bit of nostalgia to have BB in its old timeslot too).

As for the new early evening format - who knows? I’d guess either Project is back or they do a format that is lighter and basically Project adjacent (and probably in house).

The Project socials are still probably doing equally good numbers (or even better!) despite not even being on air anymore because they are still very active on their account.

Generally speaking, no. I’d argue it depends entirely on the context and who says it. I don’t know @KICK-IT but he’s never struck me as a particularly hateful person, so I’d say it was a clumsy and poor turn of phrase more than anything else. Anyway that’s all I have to say on the matter. Let’s all move on now.

Debatable. Boland created the template, Pell carried it on. And Sunrise continued to dominate without him.

Boland already tried again with Wake Up and that also fell flat.

The problem here is 10 not reading the room. 9 and 7 dominate the slot, but they still expected a hard news show to compete. They’d be better off putting together some influencer-led panel or game show. Its different to the other stations and would bring in a new, younger audience

I don’t think going people are going to come to broadcast TV at six pm. You could get something that skews younger sure - but younger people are a decking audience on FTA

Thanks. Yea relax guys. I’m gay - from my perspective there is no problem when someone gay identifies someone else as being gay as a descriptor.

If others see it differently that’s fine too

Anyhoo, the shows ratings suck. We all know that. But when will the DailyFail paper start asking for the axe of this show, just like they did with The Project?

Light is where they need that hour to be. This whole launch has been misguided.
If they wanted a serious news show that need this to be a hour long weekly spot and let that gain traction for a couple of years whilst rebuilding your news service (which they have already started doing). Thai was just way too much, too quickly and in a timeslot that was never going to work.

The hour needs to return to light entertainment and as other have mentioned that has to be game shows or a panel show. The project was perfect for ten and in my opinion, lost its was as soon as they put waleed in. Her jarred in that format trying to be too newsy but then laughing along with the lighter stuff. He’s a great journo and talent but I don’t think he should have ever have been put on the project. It was the start of the rot and also made them fodder For the criticism and the Woke tag.
The project should have stuck to what it did best which was lighthearted discussion of the biggest news Of the day Mixed with celebrities and comedy. Perfect brand for 10 and flagship show for the network..

I don’t think we will ever see it returned as the brand has been too badly damaged but a panel/project/studio 10 style show is what needs to be returned to that time slot and the hard news needs to be relegated to an hour long flagship show, on once a week

Don’t disagree. In fairness I think it was their head of news who commissioned this format and hired internally for the EP. As tastefully summed up by this anonymous insider quote:

ā€˜Disaster. An EP who has never produced anything before. Hosts who have never hosted anything before,’ they said.

ā€˜I watched it last night - it’s genuinely terrible. Day one - stillborn. Day two - buried. Martin’s masterpiece.’

If a younger audience is the target, a sit down interview with Derryn Hinch is a bizarre choice.

If it ends up getting axed or otherwise moved to the weekends, can Ten get some sort of waiver to air just below the minimum amount of local content required due to financial hardship?

Tuesday also saw 10 News+ lose half of it lead it audience to 188,000.

That would be a stretch given they are owned by large, international media company.

Worth noting that DOND rated 323,000 last night which is in the top 5 of results for the show this year.

AND last year on the equivalent day The Project (admittedly across the hour) rated 303,000.

So this seems to be mitigating the impact of 10 News+ ratings on 10’s post 7.30pm schedule - MasterChef has been down a bit but that could be other factors.

So there seems to be about double the viewers watching before and after 10 News+. A big switch off and then a switch on again.

Do we know if it’s increasing or decreasing in the second half hour? I also think it’s been promoted all wrong. But that’s for another time.

If 10 decide after another month its not working the way it needs,
Something i’d do is, extend normal news and just do 30mins of + at 6:30 or 30 mins at 6pm and find a new entertainment type show at 6:30pm.
I wouldnt go looking at moving realities to 7pm just yet.
Ive watched some bits and its nothing that would have me tuning in regularly. Im very interested to see where this goes.

I read something a couple days ago saying that Ten initially considered a weeknight version of a Cheap Seats style show but instead went for more hard hitting news. That was very much the wrong decision. They just need a simple, funny, more laid back 30 minute show at 7pm. Less on the headlines, more focus on entertainment/pop culture or comedy. A gameshow hour could then go 6-7pm. 10News+ on a Sunday night with bigger stories that are promoted across the week could maybe then work.
