Falling asleep after drinking at 6pm? You have many problems.
Iâve been away on holidays for a week or so so just catching up on this all.
Whoever thought Denham and Amelia were presenters - are wrong. They have the charisma of a cutting board.
This show simply isnât going to work, itâs good journalism but itâs all feels like it is appealing to an audience that no longer wants that kind of journalism, and itâs presented in a style that feels like itâs 2008.
Launching a new high-cost linear show (at least set-up wise) to appeal to a dwindling FTA audience in a slot youâve always battled in? Properly ridiculous.
The problem with this though, is the lower numbers leak into primetime. Its having an impact on MC, BB and Survivor.
10 has instantly lost 150k viewership that they could potentially advertise their other shows too.
to me it feels like a weekly show thatâs being made to stretch out over six nights. There just isnât enough to keep it going for six hours of airtime a week.
You wonder did they pilot this show at all before launching it?
and on a network thatâs long had a poor public perception of being a place for serious news, and a known history of being unable to crack that market last time they tried it.
Biggest breaking news of the year with the MUSHROOM murder jury decision, everyone is lapping it upâŚ10News+ "Hereâs a story on ADHD and a tired mum & dad telling a (yes itâs sad & important) but very minor story.
So out of touch
They spent half the program on the trial
I disagree that the journalism is good. The top story was breaking news, and they immediately threw to a prerecorded package that had, Iâm not joking, a 30 second montage of slowed down beef Wellington being slapped about with voiceover clips of Gordon Ramsay saying âlook how crispy that isâ.
30 seconds is an age in television. It was like a comedy sketch.
7 and 9 went straight to police and distraught friend reactions in the scrum outside court. Much better television.
They led with the trial and gave it the attention it deserved in the first 20+ minutes. Expecting an entire hour of repetition isnât reasonable. Sometimes people just want something to complain about.
Theyâve made some changes to the opener compared to last week.
-
It was around 1:45 mins to the first package, so theyâve knocked off ~60 seconds of fluff.
-
They no longer start the bulletin standing on a staircase in the middle of a dark and empty office building.
So thatâs good.
But it is still a very conventional and generic start to the programme that signals the viewer to switch channels.
Put the presenters at the videowall and play the footage behind them, donât cut away. The Mushroom case was the big story, so show me Erin Patersonâs face 10 feet tall on the big screen and catch my attention as the viewer.
Everything needs to focus on slowing viewer attrition when a huge chunk of the audience is leaving 10 at 6:02.
â
Look at the level of interactivity with the set and video walls here at the top of NBC Nightly News.
An ultra-traditional flagship bulletin where the median viewer age is probably over 70. Yet lightyears more arresting and immediate than the 1980s âdim the lightsâ intro on 10 plus.
Aww not as big as Tenâs problems.
Yeah the Beef Wellington montage at the start of the package was silly. I struggled to keep watching when the footage of Gordon Ramsay appeared.
Completely agree. Last night was the first time Iâve watched more than a few mins of this. I thought the breaking news of the day might have helped it come into its own a bit. It was really bad. The part you mentioned was terrible, I actually thought there was an audio issue with how long the vision of the dish went for. The doctor they had on to discuss the case was a really bad media performer and the story about the ADHD medication was underdone trash that I donât think ACA would even air.
Completely switched off at that point. Itâs a story about a murder and they were playing âfunnyâ Gordon Ramsay clips, and not just one. Part of my point about 10 News+ not being comparable to longform journalism on ABC News.
wow.
on all stories, even one as serious as the mushroom trial⌠what a joke
On one of biggest news nights of the year when 10 News had its highest rating of 2025 10 News+ lost more than half that lead in audience and missed the top 30.
From 10:
Its a shame none of those metrics matter to advertisers and few generate revenue.
Itâs big issue is for big news stories 7 and 9 will go into more depth anyway and viewers will naturally gravitate there. If they canât pull an audience away from the day to day local news theyâre not going to pull the audience away on big breaking news days either. They had no point of difference to offer.
Of course digital should be a priority nowadays and done correctly it can offset falling linear revenues but itâs big issue is digital is about short form content whilst the TV product is very much focusing on long form content and isnât seemingly being produced in a way that can be clipped for digital.
I think this show will be gone (or cut back to once a week) by the time Big Brother launches. It just doesnât fit the 10 demographic.
