Ten News +

Ten have made a major misstep by dropping The Project for something more hard-hitting and in-depth. Maybe that’s what programmers thought viewers wanted but clearly they probably wanted a show that was more the opposite, lighter and entertaining. As some have said before, The Project started having problrms when they went with more hard-hitting stories. That should have been a warning.

It may still work as a one hour, weekly show. Maybe they will do that with the journos if they dump the weekday editions.

Time to start expanding the Cheap Seats’ writers and researchers team.

They spent almost 10 minutes on the Peter Russell-Clarke story last night (with two live crosses). It felt very drawn out and slow. It was the same with the Crocodile Report. And then they spend less than 2 minutes on news headlines between add breaks.

The show should be trimmed back to 30 minutes. There just isn’t enough content or money going into it, to justify a full hour.

Tonight would be good to dedicate much of the program to this afternoon’s trial news.

Yes and no. I think the format of The Project became stale, the cost of it to the network with no ownership of the content and IP was also another negative.
Workforce aside I think it was time for The Project to end. What’s replaced it through needs to resonate with audiences and I think they will need to tweak this show quite substantially and it is going to take time.
Regardless this was never going to be an overnight success and as I have said numerous times whatever goes there that will break even for the cost will be heralded as a success.

If they can capitalize on this to at least get some eye balls, they never will.

Isn’t that what 7:30 exists to achieve?

“Mushroom Verdict Unpacked” tonight.

They’d be absoluetly mad not to start tonight’s show with a standing presentation at the big screen, and not using the 3 screens for a 3 way live cross ala Melbourne. Resources are already there.

Come on people. Get your act together!

Tonight will be interesting as this is their opportunity to shine!

Tonight is an opportune night to nail the show rundown and format I agree.
I think if tonight feels as flat and drawn out, my first step would be to get Denham away from the desk and out in the field. Almost have him as the roving correspondent. Let Amelia host on her own and see how she goes. Then try another week of Denham hosting solo with Amelia in the field. See how both go and then make a call off that.
I don’t think the dynamic of the two of them at the desk is working and the banter is almost as awkward as Peter Mitchell.

They also tonight NEED to run the Derryn Hinch interview at the end not at the middle or the start.
End on a light note.

Was that a slip-up in the first minute of the show I heard?

Not Denham accidentally going to read Amelia’s line after starting tonight’s bulletin.
