I caught a few minutes of 10news+ this evening, and there was a story on an echidna getting up to some mischief in the Blue Mountains. It was an instant turn-off for me. I switched across to ABC News, for some actual news.
I really canât understand why 10news+ doesnât just focus on true crime and on intl news and politics such as the Ukraine War, Trump and Albo and the Melbourne crime wave. They have a whole hour to do something different, instead of more fluff and infotainment.

Because nobody has been watching it when theyâve done that so theyâre trying other stories.
Please note: A Current Affair did a story on The Golden Bachelor this week and that qualifies as News/Current Affairs apparently.

Probably because everyone else is doing that, where is the point of difference?
The only news outlet that does it in depth are the ABC and during the day at least, Sky News, which is not on free to air TV in the metro capitals.
Ten News+ could focus on intl politics and economics as well as true crime. Their coverage on the Mushroom poisoning case was good but they seem to have abandoned that sort of news now. The ABC pretty much is doing intl politics and economics in-depth alone on FTA, SBS news does have some coverage but still not to the depth of the ABC. However to be fair it does show PBS, France 24 and Al Jazeera which covers these topics in depth from an international perspective. I still think Ten could have done more especially on US-Aus politics and the war in Ukraine.
I donât watch SBS world news, but ABC news does this. It would have been good if Ten could have also gone down this path, as there is plenty of fluff and infotainment on the other commercial news channels.
the viewers have probably already demonstrated that they donât wish to watch that sort of heavy reporting at 6.00

I would have thought there would be demand for heavy news going by the popularity of the ABC News Channel and the proliferation of news bulletins during the day, including Seven midday news, the 3:30pm afternoon news on Ten and intl news on SBS Viceland at 4pm.
The ABC News Channel rates absolute peanuts compared to other channels; the multiple news bulletins during the day are mainly down to the fact that they are relatively cheap to produce and count towards Australian production quotas. The commercial station news bulletins arenât filled with in-depth heavy news; they are filled with lots of light-hearted news and near commercials.

These rate about 50-75k depending on the day. Not much demand on 10 for news.

It depends on what news. Have the light stuff from 5-6pm and then the harder stuff from 6pm onwards to have a point of difference from Nine and Seven which have a mix of hard and light news.
Itâs very competitive though, so it may be hard for Ten to get an audience at 6pm but at least try something a bit different.

Thatâs what 10 News + was/is and itâs not working out. Same as when they tried it last time with George Negus at 6.00/6.30 and same the time before with Hinch current affairs at 6.00.
