Ten News First Presenters and Reporters

Ironically, the engineering team were a matter of weeks away from providing an HD feed to Sydney. The vision switcher and studio cameras were all HD, but the path through to Sydney was not.

It’s quite possible, but an EVS not an edit suite… it’s very doable. Kate could be in studio 3, she could do everything. Why do you need 3 presenters?

Well, yeah, wouldn’t surprise me if that’s the outcome given they’re still very much a shoestring operation.

Still hope they at least have a second presenter for either sport or weather to mix things up a bit otherwise it will make for a very stale ABC style bulletin.

Not to mention the length of the program if its 90 mintues with just one presenter

There’s only the one studio and the newsroom floor at Pyrmont isn’t there? It isn’t possible to do separate bulletins for Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane.

I’d say this is why she moved. Otherwise, they wouldn’t care if she did. It’s just they need to give her the same or better role once she returned from mat leave but they have already committed to Adam.

I understand 3 studios and 3 control rooms. 1 News/Studio 10, 1 Sports and 1 Production/Sunday Project.

Yes you may be right they have that smaller space they use when they have two football games on simultaneously.

That’s correct, 3 studios effectively and don’t they also have the space where they have a green screen for Sydney crosses for various programs? Wouldn’t be ideal for a full bulletin, but just a guess. Can’t see them building or decking out a new space, would have to be using something that’s already there.

Perhaps they could use the space where 10 News First came from in 2019 while the new set was being built.
Could transport the old Brisbane set there.

That space might now be the 10 Sport area though.

Never liked that Brisbane set. The smaller replica of the Sydney desk would be better though I imagine they’ll just use one of the pre-existing desk/screen set ups already in one of the secondary studios with a single camera. Put an Adelaide cityscape on the screen and that’ll be about it, I suspect.

I believe that space was just in the main studio where The Project, Living Room & main sports presenting area is.

Given The Living Room is being rested next year, they could use that space (if possible) to put something together for Adelaide - just a thought.

Guess we’ll wait and see…

I wouldn’t usually share a Daily Mail article, however…

Johnson’s departure comes a week after senior reporter and producer Gillian Bowen also departed the network following a seven year stint.

Another established Ten newsroom reporter, crime writer and podcaster Lia Harris, has taken up a gig at the ABC.

Her departure comes as Ten’s former long-time news director Anthony Murdoch makes his move to Channel Seven official.

10 are becoming a basket case.

Lia Harris is a big loss. She’s a genuine news breaker and competent reporter.

Looks like more opportunities for unknowns in the 10 news room.

Talent move around all the time so nothing new there, though if it’s a trend as DM are reporting then that’s something to be worried about.

Looks like Gillian’s moving away from reporting and 7 years is a good stint. Lia did well with the Where’s William podcast, however never really rated her as a confident reporter - also clocking up 4.5 years there is nothing to be sneezed at either.

Also, unknowns have to start somewhere too and 10 have picked up some fantastic journos from regional newsrooms who are going on to do great things at the network - just look at John Paul Gonzo or Samantha Butler in Brisbane.

Nothing new in this article for me… it’s always been a stepping stone to a better gig at another network.

I quite like Gillian but I didn’t think Lia was very strong on-air either. The greatest loss is to 10Speaks, as both of them were heavy contributors to ensuring 10 at least outputted something.

Sounds like a beat up over normal staff turnover that every organisation has. Might be good to get some fresh ideas and talent into the place, particularly behind the scenes.

Is there anything wrong with being a stepping stone?

Nothing at all…. It’s a way of progressing.

My understanding is that has been closed down. Their podcasts are now outsourced with listnr or some shit like that.

Yes we are aware. @nationalnews was just saying that they were the only real content creators on 10Speaks, and now don’t have anything to do in that space at 10.
