Ten News First Content and Appearance

I think the “Made in X” (where X = city/state) was created to reinforce localism of the bulletins, following a very tumultuous period for Network 10 which included having to centralize bulletins and render staff redundant during the COVID-19 pandemic.

I had always said from the start that it was only a temporary measure during a tough time for not just Channel 10, but also the media landscape. But it’s good that each of the five major markets now have fully local bulletins, including Adelaide which is being presented locally for the time being while Kate Freebairn is on maternity leave.

I think I’d rather see something like Live from Melbourne rather than Made in Melbourne.

Yeah I have to admit the way I interpreted “Made in Melbourne” was that it wasn’t live, because I assumed if it was live they’d say “Live from Melbourne”

Melbourne needs to refresh its whole bulletin starting with changing up the intro to the updates so its not ‘on Melbournes Ten News First’ all day everyday.

The start of today’s news in Sydney and Melbourne will be pushed back, due to late finish to the Australian F1 Grand Prix race.

Which means the project will be pushed back unless they dump stories or only do 30-45 mins of news.

New started at 5:22pm

Wonder how this plays out for the non aedt markets like Brisbane and Adelaide?

IN Adelaide news looks to be staring at 5:22 pm local time.

Edit: Brisbane as well.

That’s just plain ridiculous. So they had filler to make up the time.

Looks like a 50min bulletin. Very very strange.

If you’re going to have filler put it at the back of the bulletin not at 5pm. Ridiculous indeed.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before or widely known, however most of the content for Daniel Doody’s Good News segment on the Lunchtime news is all shot on an iPhone so he’s basically filming, producing and reporting all of his own segments.

Way to save on costs I guess while providing this lighter fare for the daytime bulletins.

In Europe many networks send out their reporters with just an iPhone or similar, they produce, script, edit & submit their stories back to the office from the field, even going live from their phone if required.
It has its advantages as the news director may ask for different images or a re-write almost immediately.
Very cheep one person news crew.

I was in Alice Springs this morning & watched a journalist do his piece to camera looking out from the balcony of his motel room with just his phone & some small LED lights on stands. Didn’t recognise him unfortunately.

The past few nights, the late news has been crashing back from the breaks.

Like normally it fades from black to the studio when returning from breaks. But the last few nights it’s been just a raw cut back to Ursula a few words into her sentence.

It’s not on the Youtube version.

Slight change to the set in Sydney?
Black strip on the left of the set?

Nice pickup Nicholas, always so observant.

Wonder what it could be, or why they’ve done it?

Could it be a screen? Looks like there is some cabling at the base or something.

It looks too perfectly aligned to what was there before, especially at the top.

My money’s on them just having painted that part of the framing dark to blend it with the rest of the set.

Here’s another cap which shows it from the floor:
I checked my recordings and it was also there on Friday, not Thursday.
Seems like they painted the wall. Doesn’t seem to stick out any further to indicate being a screen.

Kinda prefer it before, not sure why they’d just randomly paint it… looks quite dark when only that’s seen… but then it sticks out in a sea of white in wider shots.

I agree, it sticks out. All the other walls are still white, including the portion behind the light bars near the vertical screens.

Perhaps they intend on slowly painting all the walls black around the edges gradually?
