only one way to find out…
I’d love to see an executive’s reaction if that was the only argument in a pitch meeting…
There are plenty of other clues you can use before going ahead - market and audience research, financial risk analysis, getting sponsors and partners onboard.
Ten’s YouTube channel used to be the most popular one of the commercials, but then when tenplay came along, they stopped updating it. Had they continued they definitely could’ve had a lot of success with this.
Yes that’s what I meant. Develop a business plan run the numbers and launch to see if it’s successful.
The breaking supers used during the news updates on Studio 10 aren’t changing the 10 logo to red to match the rest of the super like they used to. The blue 10 logo with red News First text next it to looks terrible. I’ve noticed this happening a fair bit of late.
Example:
I’m confused about why 10 should create a news site when they only provide 1 hour 30 minutes of news on their main channel each day. They show CBS This Morning as their breakfast show and their evening weekend news is national… how would making a website allow 10 to become a go-to news source for Australians when they are only providing the bare minimum on their primary platform?
Nine, Seven, and ABC have success on all platforms because they are reliable. I can tune into Channel 9 for example and have Today Show in the mornings as-well-as early, morning, afternoon, evening, and late news bulletins. Viewers will find themselves using their online/social media presence as-well because of the reliability already shown on TV. Maybe increase the TV content first before investing in an online news site no one asked for.
At the end of the day, if breaking news is happening, myself and basically everyone else would find myself flicking over to ABC, Nine or Seven, not Channel 10. They need to fix that first before launching another failure.
It won’t straight away but it would at least give them a presence. It’s not much, but it is a start.
Which no one will make use of and probably disappear after a year or so. The current online presence they have currently is ran terribly - they need some drastic improvements as-well.
The 10 News brand isn’t a go-to source or household name in Australia - they need to fix the backbone of it first before investing into websites. I wish people on here would understand this. You can’t run a national news site with the current staffing they have or what was mentioned above stating something like 2 people for online anyway. There is a-lot more heads behind the commercial news sites than what people think.
Yes, this is exactly the point!
However, the only point I’d counter it with is that the media world is more online than ever before and that free-to-air isn’t much of a launching platform anymore.
They can launch an online presence which can dominate their focus, but yes, they’d need way more staff to become a proper news source.
I think one of the differences of ten news in the past is that they’ve modelled how to do news production much cheaper than seven or nine, and it has worked well from them - however this same approach to online and breakfast/morning shows hasn’t worked for them.
Since the demise of 10 daily, I’d go as far as saying that the re-focus on the 10 News socials has been better than it had in the last two years aside from obviously having a news website and sharing of news articles previously.
Here’s an example, it’s nice to see something being promo’d for tonight, especially since it’s the weekend and they barely promote that, if at all.
Agree they should focus on socials for now
They need to both grow follows me engagement on socials which is relatively low (Queensland stands out as particularly low) and also promote the socials more
- More call outs during the bulletin from hosts
- social logos and handles on screen during play outs / play ons
- a continual social FB / Twitter flipper underneath the 10 News First bug
- add socials to news updates
Leverage The Project
- promote 10 news first socials and post more 10
News first social content on the projects social - promote 10 news first socials on the Project
The 5pm bulletin is no longer separated into two parts in the EPG.
10‘s finance report now brought to you by Xero.
Saw quite a few sponsors last night in Brisbane. Traffic, finance and I think something in sport. The other was for the weather OBs, which you mentioned in another thread, which they did (unnecessarily IMO) a whole report on.
I felt the report went for far too long, and you could obviously tell that it was sponsored - but the Qld tourism industry (and all of them for that matter) really need all the support and exposure they can get, so I’d rather see that than specials at Aldi
If 10 are able to attract some more sponsors to the bulletin, then I can only help to think that’s a good thing for the longevity and (hopefully) the quality of their new service moving forward.
Absolutely the industry needs the support. They could have just plugged the tour in the following weather segment. The news report as well as promotion in weather was unnecessary, IMO. Credit though to 10 that Georgie disclosed the “team up” in the intro.
I wish 10 would re-instate a morning news service. Love to see their product at a 11am each morning.
Is Stella based out of Canberra now for 10?
I note she has been filing the Canberra report nightly after 6pm with PVO filing the Canberra report in the 5pm hour. It is good they’re varying it.
Maybe Amber Austin-Wright is on Maternity Leave and Tegan George rostered on weekends.
This cross with Stela has been happening most mornings for a week or 2 now, she’s quite good.
It’s good to see they’ve got more journalists in Canberra with Tegan George, Amber Austin-Wright, PVO and now Stela.
Edit:
You’re probably right, Amber mentioned somewhere on Twitter that they’re expecting twins.
This was pretty funny from yesterday, it didn’t go to air obviously.
