Live backdrops???
Because that would make Ten really stand out from the crowdâŠ
I suppose skylines live or otherwise are inevitable and thereâs nothing wrong with them⊠but everyone is doing it.
But then we donât yet know what Ten is doing do we? Hmmm
Even as a point of difference, a good newsroom backdrop would look good, especially in Sydney!
5 News in the UK (produced by ITN) always do some interesting things that always look different from BBC News and other ITN bulletins on ITV and channel 4
Agreed. Enough with the live backdrops. Everyone does them and tbh i dont think they look that great. Give me a well designed artistic background or as you said, a good newsroom backdrop.
Well as long as the new look isnât similarâŠ
The open newsroom would look great for national bulletins. However, I think a live or static backdrop is much more suitable for all local bulletins.
oh ho ho ho. you just wait
If youâre going to do a skyline the video should be graded and enhanced to make it really sparkle⊠that way the skylines on the other channels look dull and unappealing and will have a subliminally negative affect on viewers
Considering this relaunch is happening next week Iâm surprised we havenât seen them move the news to another studio so they can build new sets etc.
I also wonder if The Project will be relaunched too on the same day?
Iâd say the prospect certainly isnât off the cards considering that apparently Studio 10 might receive a makeover too.
Sydney and Adelaide have the luxury of potentially using real newsrooms as backdrops. Make use of it!!
Pretty sure Perth does too. IIRC There is no wall between the studio and the newsroom. They just have to remove the screens.
Itâs a load wall with monitors on the newsroom side.
ok, i was mistaken then
This probably wonât happen for quite some time afterwards and yes, I know this isnât not the be all and end all (see ABC News). But one thing I really hope does happen with the relaunch or sometime shortly after, is some form of HD production/presentation in all five markets.
You can have a top notch set & graphics + absolutely amazing theme music, but 576i SD picture quality outside of Sydney/national bulletins would really dull down the impact of a late 2018 relaunch of Tenâs news service against the 1080i HD-produced bulletins on Seven (in some markets) and especially Nine. Heck, even SBS World News of all services can manage HD for all their in-studio elements!
As far as the sets are concerned, Iâm only expecting minor tweaks (new logo light display for Opening wideshots of Sydney/national set, etc.) rather than completely new sets.
I get why thereâs a lot of romanticism for a newsroom backdrop, but those only really work on national bulletins IMO. For a local 5pm bulletin in a major metropolitan market, you really need some form of skyline backdrop even if that means going for a point of difference: Eg, a Sydney CBD backdrop instead of the extremely worn clichĂ© of having a Harbour Bridge/Opera House backdrop.

As far as the sets are concerned, Iâm only expecting minor tweaks (new logo light display for Opening wideshots of Sydney/national set, etc.) rather than completely new sets.
Apparently not according to @lexington
Sets probably not⊠but itâs more than a tweakâŠ
Tonightâs bulletin in Brisbane main focus on the storms.
