Afternoon News also coming from Melbourne today
Still blows my mind how good this VR set looks.
Yet this rubbish is being pumped out in the west…
On the afternoon bulletin local update, Jayde was cut off for the throw to Jen
Jayde still doesn’t have a voice over.. interesting.
Can’t Daniel read?
As if Queen Candy would allow that to happen so close to ‘her’ studio. ![]()

What was the good news? Doody didn’t say anything on his Instagram.
He does a Good News segment on the lunchtime bulletin with feel-good stories. Really nice addition.
It doesn’t look sensible in that shot at all. Not only does the scale look weird (with the back ‘screen’ overshadowing a tiny desk) but it can’t overcome how the set looks overly fake and unrealistic (which is one of the major issues VR sets have).
Yes it looks nicer than Seven’s Perth VR set. However, it has just about as many flaws and issues as that set.
Big time, I think that looks particularly bad.
Sport coming from the Melbourne VR set with standing presentation.
Would have to be one of the best virtual sets I’ve seen.
I’m also yet to see a virtual set on air that really prioritises realism over the tacky GFX additions that make them look fake and cheap.
If they were designed as a physical construction and then built in 3D, rather than a creative designer making their impression of a fancy news room, things would look better
Melbourne opens with an extended preview of a story to be covered later using the large faux screen; looked good.
“We’ll have a full report coming up … but we start tonight with …”
Did the present wear green so we are see them?
Doesn’t look bad but it just looks fake. No one would install a screen like that on a real set. And you can tell they’ve tried to make it look more real by sinking it down into the floor with a gap in between but still looks very fake.

It’s interesting - some things aren’t meant to be real - I’m a bit surprised they haven’t taken it further and done the full on US style interactive weather graphics on a set like that (or is it a limitation of the set/tech?) Wouldn’t want to see it everyday but would probably work for more extreme weather days…
