I was skeptical with Melbourne but it’s really impressive. Love the city out the fake window and the control room background (which has Sydney set vibes).
Also echos some of the good presentation elements of Sydney while still being unique.
Will be interesting to see what else they might do with the space - national news presentation upon occasion, sports set for A-Leagues etc.

Knowing 10 they’ll probably only use it for Melb news and if Sydney is down for national news. At least they finally have a good quality set alternative to the Syd set though.

Yeah that set looked ridiculous. Funnily enough, ProSieben actually went in the opposite direction to 10 and now use a real studio:

When they finally axe their 6pm shocker, they could go with “Ten News. Minus the Plus”
But looks far less impressive.
I think part of the issue is it’s easy for the creators/suits to go “ooh it’s VR we can do anything!” and go crazy instead of building something more grounded in reality.
The best looking VR sets avoid being a fever dream. ITV News, for example.

Is 10 Late News still uploaded before broadcast on 10 around 9.30pm?
I like this change. Looks a lot more realistic.
Will the viewers care? Will it translate to more people watching in the longer term?
Tend to doubt it. The primary product is the content. Even if the studio stuff looks better.
For what it’s worth, Melbourne’s bulletin last night had 67,000. That’s above it recent (unimpressive) numbers no doubt driven by the big news day in Victoria. At least a bigger-than-normal audience was exposed to the new look. Will keep following the numbers to see if a trend developes.

I take it that it is up on recent results. But on a big news day, surely they should be landing 80+ in Melbourne?

New presentation look - the hint of a shadow for the presenter.
Other presentations don’t have a shadow.
A couple of minutes later it was used for the weather preview.
