Robo cameras are smooth as butter. Really excellent tech, globally leading stuff. The keying is incredible. What a shame they couldn’t get the set design to the same level. But hey, at least that part is easy to change…

Is a virtual set “cheaper” than an actual physical set?
These VR/3D designs have the same vibe as those graphics on election coverage.
In the long run, yes.
They will be able to replace it whenever they want at the expense of a few hours of graphic design time.

That makes sense. Investing in the technology would allow the create new sets without physical sets anymore.
The cost for this was still high. The cameras are worth thousands alone.

Now with all this new branding, local news back in all markets and some new sets perhaps they could actually produce some promos. They need a network wide news positioning promo and local promos as well.

It’s a good solution and outcome for ATV10, as they don’t have the space to create larger sets like their Melbourne rivals.

Hopefully the VR server doesn’t crash and they’ll need to revert to slide projectors and overhead projectors.

I think this is almost perfect. My gripes with VR sets like this is trying to make perspective look right, and they didn’t do a bad job.
The other issue is something I haven’t seen done right…
People in the real world have shadows and reflections. It looks like she’s just there, and not there, if that makes sense.

Agree. I’m not sure what they can do here? The presenters feet and shoes just don’t look right.
I said above maybe they could create a real standing platform.
At least the virtual set is appropriately sized. Not too small, but also not looking like it was filmed in an air hanger, like some have done:

Any idea why the headlines have been scrapped? Looks sloppy also what’s with the multiple cuts of the theme music once the VO starts.

Some sets or should I say studio, just have a physical desk other may not have any desk at all (or a virtual desk).
They’re in the same uncanny valley as this, I’m afraid. I think it would look a lot more believable if they stopped showing the fake second storey. Looks a lot better in closer shots.

Agreed. If they made the virtual set a little smaller (no second storey), the desk wouldn’t look so tiny – it’s actually a reasonable size as it fits two with plenty of space to spare. Otherwise it’s actually pretty good.
