Ten News Content and Appearance

White said being local is “very important to communities around Australia”.

Hahaha, well if he says being local is very important, then perhaps 10 needs to invest in full blown out news bulletins for Regional NSW, Regional VIC, Regional QLD and Canberra. Simple as that.

Not quite as simple as that, they’d have to make economical sense. Paramount/10 are a business at the end of the day, there would have to be some sort of return (or legislation) for them to ever attempt this. Regional news can still be important without having dedicated bulletins in those regions.

They’re doing a lot of talking, but not saying much.

Agree. Lots of hot air. Not anything other news divisions around the world are not doing.

10 News beat The Chase again in Brisbane. What does that suggest? That investment in local news can deliver for 10? That viewers haven’t abandoned the network when it comes to news? A “news first” approach without as many bells and whistles (consumer reports etc) can work?

Paving the way for Big Brother at 7pm

I still think this Sunday nights at 9pm followed by late news is better scheduling. That 6.30 slot is death.

No!

3 similar news style programs on a Sunday night is too much ! Would have to be some good scoops.

One thing that hasn’t been discussed is the possibility of 10 News extending back to 90 minutes.

5pm 10 News
6:30pm new show
7pm Deal or No Deal

I sincerely hope this doesn’t happen.

I think this is a winner..

5.00 10 News (the title)
6.00 Millionaire (with A-list host) / Deal Or No Deal
6.30 Inside Edition Australia (1-2 AU stories, US filler)
7.00 Big Brother / Celebrity / Survivor / Masterchef

We could also see the Afternoon News extent to hour. Potential a 3.00pm start to accomodate more local content quoters.

Sounds awful. Axe an Australian program but replace it with a copycat show with American filler. That would flop hard.

Like pre-recording the next season of I’m A Celebrity, I assume they’re doing it for the cost savings and not because they think it will make a better show that audiences will like better.

Skews more ACA than The Project. Have you ever watched it?
