Ten News Centralisation 2020

They’re doing so much damage to their news brand that they may as well just close down news production altogether. No one is going to watch this rubbish over local news on the other stations. Sad, sad day.

This is disgusting

I guess they are keeping 2 bulletins to be able to have a Sydney bulletin and a Melbourne bulletin. With 5 million each, those are the big two tv markets that matter.

Brisbane Adelaide and Perth are small fry

But honesty, Mise well go to national at this point

One would think this will hurt them particularly bad publicly. The last round of cuts were more BTS- hundreds of reporters/producers/operators or a dozen daytime bulletins. But, these cuts will be to their staple 5pm news and visible to the viewer- recognisable faces sacked and their local news slashed. Another hit to their news brand.

Wonder what WIN thinks about all of this? Their local news bulletins are at a major risk of cancellation (if they weren’t already).

Conspiracy theory time but perhaps they’ll bite the bullet and produce their own 5pm news in Queensland, NSW and Victoria in conjunction with Sky News to lead into WIN News?

Surprised Project avoided any cuts… some of the names would be on big pay packets for average ratings. While sad, many of these identities will survive and with big pay packets of over $300k live 2-3 times (or more) better off than the average Australian.

A shame CH10 has gone through this cycle, in years to come they’ll announce news expansion and compete from the bottom.

Adelaide have now lost two local bulletins in the past three months. First Seven Afternoon News and now Ten News First. There’s Nine at 4pm & 6pm, Seven at 6pm and ABC at 7pm left.

I doubt they’ll reverse this direction.

The Project could have cuts coming too, at some stage but it’s a national show already so it might be safe.

Why the Hell Ten Launched a News Service in the First Place? Ten are a Low Cost Network These Days as their News Services goes Head-to-Head with Hour Long Quiz Shows (Except in Adelaide where their Live and Local 2 Hour Bulletin airs against another Quiz Show0.

i feel for the people who lost their jobs - this shouldn’t happen at all, centralization is a terrible idea just to save a few bucks :frowning:

Because it was 1965?

Network 10 introduced its news service in 1965 and was a pioneering force behind the concept of the hour-long news bulletin with co-anchors in the form of Eyewitness News from 1973 onwards.

News makes it all about KAK. The click bait making it look like she is being axed for her controversial views.

KERRI-ANNE AXED: Kennerley and Tim Bailey among Channel 10 cuts:

Nine’s Adelaide news bulletin airs at 5:00pm, after Hot Seat and before the main 6:00pm bulletin.

5pm* in adelaide for Nine News. So they are lucky to have at least one local bulletin at 5pm still.

9 is at 5 in Adelaide. So guess that gives them a local option

The worst bit is, where will all these talented people end up? With every network cost-cutting, there’s very little room for the likes of Tarsh, Georgina, Rebecca & Monika… We are in danger of loosing some serious talent forever :frowning:

I will be shocked if Georgie isn’t picked up by another network. Probably the best talent in QLD TV.

You’d think Kerri-Anne Kennerley will most likely take this as an opportunity to permanently retire from the media (aside from perhaps the odd special re-appearance here and there like other former stars have in recent years)?

Putting aside my opinions about her recent and highly controversial contributions to Studio 10, KAK has enjoyed quite a successful media career spanning 50 years or more and has achieved just about everything that is/was possible in the industry. Unlike others who are being made redundant, I’d imagine (or at the very least, hope) she has enough for a comfortable retirement.

Not at this stage, as its in prime time.
