Ten News Centralisation 2020

7 News at 4:30 Melbourne/Adelaide is pretty much what’s going to happen. There’s no new presenters.

It’s like they’ve read a book “how to ruin a network in 10 easy steps”

There’s no such company as “CBS Viacom (Au)”.

The company in question is called “Network 10 Pty Ltd” and there’s no reason why, as a company registered in Australia with an ABN, they wouldn’t have been able to apply for Jobkeeper if they met the criteria.

I think it’s the same one Bob Shanks wrote for them

In their words

So, who are we?

We’re ViacomCBS Australia & New Zealand (Hello!), a division of ViacomCBS International Networks – which in turn is a division of ViacomCBS.

Our vision is simple.

We deliver content that is premium and differentiated to the young and young at heart in the way they want it via an enhanced viewing ecosystem.

What does that even mean?

Put simply, we’ve got all the shows you love (and love to hate) right here. We create content that gets people talking.

What’s more, you’ll find all those great shows (and more) on our free-to-air channels (10, 10 Peach and 10 Bold), subscription channels (MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr. and Comedy Central), our digital platform 10 Play and subscription video on demand service, 10 All Access.

It’s an internal division. It is not a registered company that employs people.

If this turns into a ratings success then what’s stopping Seven (outside ADL/MEL), Nine and ABC doing the same thing in the future?

Maybe all of Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth’s news bulletins will be piped in from somewhere else.

Shudder

This is correct.
They still run as Network Ten Pty Limited.
ViacomCBSANZ is essentially the name of the sales team.

It really won’t. I’m guessing it’ll just pop along at current ratings.

It’s been suggested before a la allusions to ITN, but could 10’s news division be acquired with a lease-back to the new production company on program slots?

Tend to agree. I don’t think ratings will drop too much. Maybe 5-10%

What production company? What do you mean exactly?

The ITN idea is completely unheard of in AU

And untested in Australia… so it might work.

For a localish example, look at what Prime NZ has been doing for the last 15 years. They had Sky News Australia produce their news and more recently Mediaworks. It can be done, it can be done well.

Maybe it’s worth a try?

Finding someone to do it may be the difficult thing - I cant see how you could make it work for a new entrant though, the likes of Sky News or AAP perhaps though (not suggesting either should or would though)

Can’t see it happening at all, or benefit.

Could Roving Enterprises? They already produce The Project.

If it was outsourced, it would have to be another company with news gathering operations, whether it’s another broadcaster or a newspaper/website.

10 could employ the reporters and presenters, while the other company could just produce the bulletin. 10 wouldn’t have to employ any off camera staff.

That doesn’t seem like a great setup. Managing that sounds like a bit of a nightmare.

Is it possible to have the 10 News content thread re-opened yet? I realise it may be too soon to open the presenter one at this time. @OnAir?
