My EPG is suggesting it is an encore screening of last night’s NCIS
10 don’t have the content slate of Seven or Nine (i.e.) content supply packages (e.g.) movies and that’s why they’re getting whipped on the arse on particularly Friday and Saturday nights,
Viewers clearly want the aforementioned programming on such nights and the ratings for Ch 7, Ch 9, 7mate, 7flix, 9Go! and 9Gem definitely reflect it on those nights.
Not bloody Walker Texas Ranger or that awful Macgyver remake or old as the hills Everybody Loves Raymond or Frasier or repeats of Ambulance Australia even.
It’s a shame that the deals they do have with Paramount, Disney and Roadshow are being wasted/not utilised, partly to blame is 10 Bold now having a consistently rating Sunday-Thursday schedule and 10 Peach now being contracted to Seinfeld/Friends 4 or 5 nights a week.
I wonder why 10 is not following other Aussie networks and go to markets like MIPCOM to buy shows to fill its schedules?
We know how expensive content is to acquire, especially outputs.
It’s odd, because you look at the financial backing 10 can have from CBS now.
Yet you look at Seven, financially in woes, yet were able to negotiate two outputs, one of which fills one of their channel’s entire 6pm-8:30pm schedule 5 nights a week and provides countless other programming (20C Fox 7flix to which I refer). Content, content, content. And young skewing, it rates and brings in more ad dollars.
I’ll tag @blackbox to observe the above comments, as he’s been consistently critical of 10’s “depth of programming” (or lack thereof) and in contrast praising Seven’s (as a factor to them often holding up in the ratings or winning weeks), on TVB podcasts.
Their depth in programming across the network has certainly been a saving grace for seven this year (not to mention news and sport). Because of this they’ve been able to ride out a tough year ok. Ten are still in a rebuilding phase so don’t have that depth (and lost a lot of content during the administration process when Fox wouldn’t do a new deal with them)
Don’t say that, some folks here like to insist the rebuilding should’ve been done already and that 10 and/or CBS are dragging their heels which means they don’t really want to be in this market. yadda yadda yadda.
The poor design and low quality building materials would suggest the rebuild is being undertaken by the same mob who constructed the Opal Tower at Sydney Olympic Park. Both projects are riddled with massive cracks.
They have definitely been playing it safe though. Although I am starting to think that is not such a bad thing. Get yourself in a position of number 1 and 2 and some distance between the ABC. Then strike properly. Its just not the right time to sort out the 6pm slot. They need to build that trust back with the audience then sort that out.
Slow and steady ;).
But also, see now what’s happening to 7. That’ll come round to 9 soon, then 10 will be the stable one.
I just hope they don’t hold onto that ‘hope’ for ever. They will need to take some more risks at some point.
Are 10 looking to be No 1 outright (total people) though? I thought they were solely keen on “Under 50s” (key demos)?
With 10 in a better financial position, it should follow Seven, ABC and SBS and go to MIPTV or MIPCOM to buy a couple of shows from distributors. Having 1 or 2 UK mini-series, drama or documentary series won’t hurt.
Do they help Seven much?
I didn’t imply they were.
Arre they first in that though? I think they are a distant third in those at the moment as well.
No, they’re very competitive in those demos.
But still coming third right? Yearly shares that is.
As usual, this bulletin will be a distant 3rd to Seven and Nine despite a better lead-in.
And a local bulletin wouldn’t have done any better
You are both right. A local or a national bulletin at 6 would rate the same (as there would be no awareness as to whether it was local or national so the same amount of people would tune in regardless )
However, putting a local bueeltin at 6 in the 2 largest markets would have been a great way to advertise and expose the 10 news first brand ofd news at 6 to a lot of people coming run from Bathurst who are not normally watching 10 at 6pm.
Lost opportunity for sure.
Yeah, cause that’s measured by total people.
No demos aren’t measured by total people. They are coming third in the demos, that is right is it not? 6pm-12am?
