Also thought this, could kick off the year? Great family show and could run multiple nights a week.
Hasn’t been doing great businsss the last few years. Previously it would run throughout August over 3 weeks, but 10 stretched it out over 2 months and moved it later from early Sept - early Nov.
Needs a bit of a refresh, maybe a new host and finally get rid of Dave Hughes and it might be watchable.
10’s ratings lately have been Paltry, If Paramount Global does close the Network Down (moving all remaining programming to Paramount+), Then DAB+ and DRM would expand all across Australia, using 10’s Spectrum.
According to Aaron Ryan from TV Central chat with 10 programmer Daniel Monaghan, there is a 8 part new series that has already been filmed for the back half of this year which will be announced soon.
Daniel Monaghan has also given an interview to Mediaweek on the axing of The Masked Singer and The Bachelor, as well as 10’s programming plans for the rest of this year. Includes minor spoilers for Hunted.
I do wonder if the axing of the Masked Singer and Bachelor, given they were both included in the upfronts, had anything to do with 10 needing to pay its Lehrmann legal bills. Seems like Masked Singer at least still had some life in it yet but was “extraordinarily expensive”.
The inclusion of both in their Upfronts is more about face value, not being included would have caused more speculation, and likely final decisions about new seasons would not have been made.
As well, The Masked Singer was on air during and The Bachelors due to premiere after 10 held their Upfronts presentation.
I think you’ll find 10 will be enquiring about Big Brother when rights renewals are underway.
They did look at it a little while back and decided against it but have publicly said they always will look at it. It would be cheaper to produce than those shows now asee and if they can stretch it to a 3 month series stripped across the week it fills a lot of gaps…. They have the room to do it now more than any other network could.
When they had it in the 2000s ir was a 3-month window from late-April to late-July, They’d probably be able to do it again if they do something closer to the original format and not whatever 7 did while they had the rights.
I think it needs to be off air a bit longer to be considered bringing it back again, despite the average format ESA/Seven served up the same appetitive just wasn’t there for the show.
