Ten Network & Paramount+ 2023

Finally - i’m surprised no-one has tried to get this up previously.

First inventors announced for a third time at an upfronts. This show sounds extremely niche but it’s been in production for years and they continue to announce it.

Did any of the pilots get picked up?

A few people have commented on 10’s lack of effort on news, so here are my thoughts on the rest of the network’s 2023 line-up:

  • 10 desperately needs a tier one sport. It needs to go hard on Cricket Australia broadcast rights. If they are successful, then other tournaments (e.g. Ashes tour of England, ICC World Cup) will eventually flow
  • Four locally made dramas (Paper Dolls, Riptide, North Shore, Five Bedrooms) are good but they can only fill part of the network’s Aussie content quota. Nothing can compare with Neighbours but can 10 consider another soap?
  • If The Real Love Boat’s ratings don’t improve dramatically, 10 will need to reconsider the succession plan to The Bachelor franchise
  • 10 Bold and 10 Peach desperately need first-run shows. Viewers will eventually get bored with repeats after repeats of American dramas and comedies
  • The Amazing Race Australia deserves another chance. All the producers have to do is follow the format of the current 34th season of the US version.
  • 10 has to resume commissioning children’s shows

Maybe they could buy the rights to Heartbreak High back from Netflix?

I doubt any network will ever produce a long running soapie ever again. Their time has passed. Ten already have enough points from Neighbours to fulfil their 2023 quota becuse if they produce more than the quota in any year they can carry over the points to the following year. Those shows that screen in 2023 can then carry over to 2024. So they don’t need to worry about the quota until 2025.

Ten also have The Secrets That She Keeps, My Life is Murder, Spreadsheet, Last King of the Cross and NCIS Sydney that can provide points. Plus a telemovie just announced: The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race.

Surely those commissioned for streaming don’t count towards their quotas? Unless of course they get a run on FTA, which not all of them will I’m guessing.

They also have their teen drama Rock Island Mysteries which has been renewed for another season but didn’t bother a mention.

Very late to the…party? Nah fizzer more like.

Returning to light up Monday nights is our second season of Would I Lie To You?

Because the first season went so well didn’t it. It lost over 100,000 viewers in the overnights in its eight week run and the demos weren’t exactly stellar and neither were the catch up figures.

Taskmaster Australia.

So we get to see the already over exposed Australian comedians in yet another panel type show. It actually might be successful for Ten.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! is returning to Africa

Why would you move it to Easter? It’s going to have way more competition and it was very successful for Ten in the school holidays with no competition appealing to bored families. It was moved away from that period originally because it was losing viewers.

MasterChef Australia, still a fan favourite after 14 seasons, returns in winter for a shorter, more compact run.

That’s very surprising seeing as Masterchef is one of the very few programmes keeping the lights on at Ten. They probably shouldn’t be screwing around with it so much given their disastrous schedule everywhere else.

plus several exciting new Australian dramas.

Where Ten, where? Two Australian dramas are not several, that’s a couple and at most 16 hours of new scripted drama at this stage. Incredibly pitiful for an entire year and especially after Neighbours was axed. Though at least we can still count NZ shows as Australian and have Australian stories told by foreign actors.

I expected NCIS: Sydney announced for Ten in Q1, considering it’s been an age since it was announced but I bet it goes to Paramount+ first to try and claw some much needed subscriptions then dumped on Ten DOA. It would have made much more sense to build the brand first on Network tv and then offer it directly to Paramount+ for international watchers.

The First Inventors

I’ve been waiting for this show for years to air. Yeah right and you can tell Ten has no confidence in it either as they’ve been dragging their feet airing since it was first announced. Cheap tat dumped on a Saturday probably where no one will care, least of all advertisers.

The Dog House Australia,

I wonder if all the repeats and last minute schedule filler has damaged the brand.

Want more? Sure you do! How about what’s happening over on our multi-channels?

Hell yes I want more endless repeats of American shows that have each probably been repeated at least 20 times. I just haven’t seen the same episode enough times.

Nothing’s happening on them and nothing that would satiate viewers or advertisers.

we proudly provide seven hours of News programming every day.

Which hardly rates and people seem disinterested in.

God Ten is really going to go down the gurgler next year. More of the same stuff, most of which is unappealing and why Ten regularly ends up in fourth nearly every night. Ten isn’t even a good promoting tool for Paramount+.

In Ten’s defense I see a few posts bemoaning Ten’s lack of sport. Despite being a loss leader and having no proof it generates viewers for other shows what exactly can Ten do? They tried with the soccer and unless they got AFL or NRL nothing is going to help them.

Wow! Aren’t you just a ray of sunshine in all the threads I open?

I’m still baffled that people take things so personally on here, as if their whole identities are tied to media conglomerates and any valid criticism is a direct knock on them personally. It’s bizarre.

Oh well sometimes reality hurts.

This is great, really wish they’d create a new cohesive network look based on this.

Looks quite dark and edgy, very different to the other two also.

Just For Laughs Sydney has been holding its 10th anniversary festival over the past week (it finishes today). One of the events was Just For Laughs: Australia: Live, held at Sydney Opera House and hosted by Nath Valvo. It featured more than 30 local and international comedians with a different line-up each night. It will be shown on 10 sometime in 2023.

is Beverley McGarvey trying to completely destroy Channel 10?

The recent changes suggest yes, she is. Why start Studio 10 at 10am. As The Circle proved years ago, the latest such a show should start is 9am. The Talk could have very easily slipped into a slot later in the day, either 11am or she could of had Ten News at 11, followed by Dr Phil, The Talk and reality encores.

Cooking shows could be screening 6am til 7:30am with Judge Judy, Bold and The Beautiful and ET to follow.

Alternatively to the above, to try and generate more income for its owner, CBS This Morning could move to 6am and screen Infomercials til 6am. Fillers could include cooking segment extracts from Studio 10 or one of the cooking shows.
