Ten HD

Ten Darwin likely didn’t have a unique HD encoder at the time, so that probably wasn’t an option.

“First time”? :smirk: Ten sure have a short memory…

Well, it has been nearly seven years since Network Ten had some sort of simulcast of the main channel!

Would SC10 have all the equipment etc ready now for HD in regional areas what work would they have to do to get it going ? . I wonder if it would also be MPEG-4 when it eventually gets here.

Perhaps they think their old programmes weren’t enjoyable?

Seems like most people on their Facebook page also have forgotten too! :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t think so at the moment. It would probably take time to upgrade the playout centre possibility in Canberra to be MPEG 4 compatiable If the metro HD channels are gong to be MPEG 4, so will the regional HD channeks be MPEG 4 too.

The Jon southern cross has to do is nearly as big as WIN upgrading the channeks at media hub but not quite.

And please southern cross I do not ever want to see a MPEG 4 version of that loop 24 / 7. I’m sort of glad southern cross has no immediate plans for 10 HD or 7 HD at this stage.

From the TEN HD Frequently Asked Questions page:

"Will TEN HD be seen in regional Australia?

That is a question for our regional partner, Southern Cross Media.

We understand that Southern Cross is not planning to launch TEN HD in the markets it
covers at this stage and will continue with its existing line-up of three broadcast channels.

TEN HD will be present in overlap markets, where the Network Ten and Southern Cross
signals overlap, eg, the Gold Coast, Wollongong and Gosford."

The Ten HD logo didn’t impress me at first, but looks great on screen in that promo image.

TEN hasn’t moved the watermark yet to accommodate the letters HD - like Nine did with SD in the lead up to the HD on air launch.

So maybe that will happen on 2 March too?
Time will tell.

I think that the watermark will be entirely different from the current, judging from that revised Ten logo, but time will tell…

I think it’s quite possible that there might be an On-Air Presentation refresh either on the day that Ten HD launches or shortly after.

Also, how do we know that Ten will have a HD watermark? They might not for all we know!

Is it just me, or does it feel like we are going backwards when it comes to design? Glossy seems to making a come back! Not that it’s a bad thing

Why is that? Ten’s current watermark matches this new ring-less Ten HD logo more than their current logo!

True, but I feel they might try to accommodate the gradients from the HD logo to suit the channel, like how Nine uses the same logo for their watermark. We’ll have to wait and see next week!

Speaking of which, if the network logo does change, does that mean we’ll finally see a new end title-card? :open_mouth:

You’d think they would so that people know that they are watching the HD version?

Every other channel I’ve seen uses a HD watermark in cases when there are SD/HD versions.

Annoying that my old telly detects a new channel so I download it and I get Ten HD on 13 but I only have sound but no picture. Delete!

The loop looks great!

Why channel 13? Why not Channel 10 for a switch over to HD?
