Ten News First Presenters and Reporters (2015-Sept 2020)

Indeed now that Ten’s former head of sport David Barham is there (although not focused on the production of AFL) that could be added incentive for Quarts to switch.

Could Ten be playing hard ball too though, knowing that Quarters being poached or wanting to leave is now a real possibility? Obviously Quarters would be on a network contract?

Lachlan Kennedy is presenting news tonight.

I’m not sure Ten’s actions are actually a good sign of more news bulletins. Surely they would go dual presenter in Melbourne which keeps Stephen around for possible other bulletins.

Then again, maybe Stephen is just out of favour.

A Herald-Sun report on Quartermain’s axing claims he has turned down the sports presenter role but is expected to remain at the news desk until Keyte starts.

“Everything is up in the air”-Quartermain.

if he has indeed turned down the sports presenter role I don’t know what else Quarters could do.

Seems to me that he’s resigned to the fact that his career at 10 is over.

Same report says he is “shattered”.

I reckon a presser within the week “Stephen Quartermain joins the Seven Network” (unless Foxtel nab him first), nearly eveyone on social media has been urging/expecting this.

Him publically saying he’s shattered and has turned down his old role speaks volumes!

Quarters is a great presenter, but I’m really looking forward to Keyte and a fresh reboot.

I wonder if Mal would be publically scrutinisung management if they got Helen Kapalos back? Surely he can’t say that Stephen is a better news anchor than Jen.

I read somewhere that Stephen has six months left on his contract so maybe Jen starts in late October…

That TVT article says that Stephen was told the news on Tuesday night, before it became publicly available on Wednesday.

To be absolutely honest, even Mal himself should concede to the fact that Stephen is just not a good newsreader. I mean the way he was sidelined was probably not the best but who wouldn’t want a qualified, popular and experienced presenter to front your bulletin rather than someone whose career evolved around sports.

Kudos to Mal for defending his mate, but sorry, his argument just doesn’t make sense IMO. Trying to defend someone who clearly isn’t qualified for their role is just madness (considering the replacement is a much more qualified veteran).

Can I ask, did Ten used to have news directors in each state rather than the single one in Sydney? Or has this always been the case.

I completely agree with all the points you’ve made there.

Again, it also has to be said that this move ensures that Melbourne has at least one female presenter reading weeknight news on a regular basis AND that Ten will have lead female anchors for their weekday 5pm news in all five capital cities! Surely this is a good thing?

Also, IMO it’s good that Jen left that hogwash that is Seven News Melbourne for Ten who is slowly but surely rebuilding their news department of a higher standard. Wouldn’t be surprised to see more presenters from other networks move across (or even back) to Ten.
