We’re both correct - I just didn’t word my first post very well. When I said radio station I should have pointed out, as you correctly did, that the online live video streams on YouTube, connected TVs, etc are staying (hence ‘with cameras in the studio’). It just won’t be available on Sky, terrestrial Freeview, etc.
Have you got an article?
I read nothing about format change - just distribution change @NuStraya
Talk announces its Spring schedule - beginning Monday 29 April - with a refreshed line-up as it closes as a linear channel. The channel will vacate its studios on Friday 26th April and will close at the end of Tuesday 30th April.
They’re pretty much reverting to the schedule they had 2 years ago, before it became TalkTV.
Seeing as they laid off all the TV staff, it’s pretty clear it’s going to be a radio station again.
Ah thanks. That’s dissapointing to know
TalkTV really innovated with formats sets graphics and presentation.
BBC and Sky Seem stuck in a bland 1990s bubble where everything on screen and energy wise is so bland and sterile
GB News just doesnt look very good. They try but miss the mark.
TalkTV really looked decent with great graphics and innovative presentation styles.
Shame. British news is really lacklustre
There sets and studios are pretty decent. Pity you won’t see the sets when you watch the Talk channel anymore. The only way is during Talk’s digital first shows, Sun Sport shows and of course on the Piers Morgan Uncensored YouTube channel.
100%. A lot of UK news seems to make a virtue out of not being visually interesting. I actually think Sky News 20 years ago was more modern than Sky News today! Look at this and tell me it wouldn’t work today:
And now what do we have? An anchor sat at a desk in front of an abysmal corridor backdrop. Yeah, that really screams 24-hour news channel…
(And don’t get me started on BBC News, using 16 year old titles in an 11 year old studio. And they still stick to 4:3 safe areas. In 2024. No one watches on 4:3 anymore!)
Blame automation and the fact that Comcast is only funding Sky News as is due to an agreement when they purchased Sky. Sky News will only get worse in years to come as it’s cut further and further to the bone.
That’s not it. It’s about the people in charge of putting the look and feel to air. This is what they want and like. They want this refined under designed British look. They feel anything else is crass
You mean they went full tacky American which was resoundingly rejected by the audience. Great innovation indeed…
The gfx and sets are not the reason the channel was not watched
The reason the channel wasn’t watched was because it was kind of GB News-lite - which just didn’t bring in viewers. Those on the left and centre eschew both GB and Talk - and those on the right (at least the ones GB are aiming at) would rather have full fat, red meat, ‘rah rah, isn’t Farage great, woke is evil, hey, these vaccines are a bit dodgy, aren’t they?’.
Interestingly News Corp first announced their plans for TalkTV back in autumn 2020, around the same time as GB was announced. They then abanodoned said plans before doing an about-face - I wonder if they saw how shit GB was and thought ‘we can do better’? Of course, we now know how that turned out…
Tough year? The channel closed down!
Now now, it hasn’t closed down, it’s gone digital
