Supermarkets and Retail

They’re not reverting. The “G” is clearly a different font.

Only a tiny difference, though. Ask anyone on the street and they’d say “hey, that’s their old logo isn’t it?” All the major aspects of the old logo (thick, bold lettering, similar width to the original Helvetica Black) are there.

That was an absolute shocker, at the very least couldn’t the ad agency get people who could actually sing properly?! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Although in fairness, the 2010-12ish timeframe wasn’t a great one for Australian retail advertising in general.

Ahh yes, I vividly remember the “Everyday” jingle that Big W used to use. Pretty cheesy and dated by today’s standards, but it served it’s purpose well at the time and was possibly to discount department store advertising what “The Fresh Food People” was to supermarket advertising.

That Nintendo 64 price in the 1st ad you linked to though! :open_mouth:

They should have just reverted to it - the kerning makes the new one look like it’s Bigw not Big W - while the older version made the two words distinct.

New website is up, logos, colours and pictures updated, including a new “BIGWin” page dedicated to the new direction:

Crop of the Brand Manifesto:

New Brand Direction Manifesto Video is also up on the “BIGWin” website, cant embed it here because it’s unlisted and is only accessible on the BIG W website as far as I know: https://www.bigw.com.au/bigwin

Really not sure about that logo animation at the end though, early days I guess, looks like the Circle logo is here to stay.

“BigWin” sounds like the name Bruce Gordon gives his Viagra pills.

Don’t mind the new logo, but I wish they’d drop the circle element.

Consistent.

While I am sure Big W want to open longer, the leases Woolworths sign with the landlords often prevent it from happening. Also, Big W has to pay for extra staff willing to work in early hours.

I’m sure that if Kmart can negotiate with the landlords, Big W can too.

Especially when very many Big W stores are located in major shopping centres which have supermarkets and/or a Kmart open until late at night.

Big W are almost always inside a mall. Many KMarts are in ones with external entrances.

How plain

Too plain indeed. Hate every store trying to mimic K-Mart’s ultra short-term bogan-basic strategy; Target has been ruined like that.

Same deal with some of the local Hobart stores near where I live. They never bothered updating to the newer signage years ago either. I guess they probably won’t bother now and will just keep the pre-2008 look…

Either way, I’m not really a huge fan of this new look like many others out there. Kinda bland really. Previous look was much better.

An advert? Aldi and K-Mart are constantly “featured” in this publication…
