Supermarkets and Retail

Yes, my local CW is pretty good. No real complaints there, has entrances on two sides as well.

Totally agree.

The Chemist warehouse warehouse, may have wide aisles, but the stores, even the newer ones, certainly don’t.

But this is my local one. You can have two shopping trolleys go down on either side of centre displays.

That dude, he’ll walk straight into the centre display they way he’s going, specially if he follows those little signs on the floor. Throw in a pram, a wheelchair and a zimmer frame and it will be total mayhem.

Meanwhile, it must be said, the great thing about Chemist Warehouse is they’ve played Dirty Sexy Money more than anyone else over the past month.

That’s why he is there. He needs medication to prevent him bumping into things.

Yeah I was just about to there are some CW’s where the aisles are really wide but most are narrow.

Those branches — ï»żone in Western Australia, three in New South Wales, four in Victoria and six in Queensland — will close from February 19 to 27 this year.

The bank has previously announced the closure of two more branches; ï»żLogan Central in Queensland on February 7 and Werribee in Victoria on February 13.

Businesses are getting better at taking action against Aldi for stealing their intellectual property. This story is from the UK.

Aldi. Good. Copied.

Wesfarmers to shut down Catch.com.au

Wesfarmers, which also owns Kmart and Target, bought Catch in 2019.

It will now shut it down after March.

Wesfarmers says Catch became less viable as competition heated up in the deals sectors. Rivals include Amazon, Kogan and Woolworths’ newer MyDeal.

Shutting down the website will cost Wesfarmers between $50 and $60 million. It says Catch’s distribution centres will be taken over by Kmart.

Aldi selling booze is weird to me. Reminds me of the skit from Aaaaargh It’sThe Mr Hell Show

Because we need more ways to get crappy Kmart stuff to the punters quicker.

Catch sells name brands and not just cheap K Mart/Target stuff. The good thing about Catch was you could pick up your items in those stores and save on delivery fees.

I have bought a few things from them in the past but lately I’ve found that other retailers were always cheaper than Catch.

Catch was a profitable business once. Wesfarmers tinkered too much and added way too much cost. It needed to remain super lean. They added a whole bunch of expensive Management when it started, imported all these people, which only made thing worse, it needed to be just a simple and low cost business.

Woolworths have MyDeal also, analysts asked for more detail in regards to that business which they said they would provide at the half. It will be interesting to see if that business somewhat improves after this collapse, MyDeal would be in a similar boat as I see Woolworths has spent considerable on marketing. It’s never been profitable from what I can tell.

MyDeal should just be rolled into this BIGW market online marketplace they run.

All Rivers stores to close, triggering 650 job losses

About 650 retailer workers will lose their jobs after receivers were unable to find a buyer for clothing and footwear retailer Rivers.

The receivers, KPMG, said today that the remaining 136 Rivers stores will close by mid-April, in the latest fallout of the collapse of fashion and apparel company Mosaic Brands.

Several former Mosaic brands, including Katies, have already been wound up. KPMG restructuring partner David Hardy said:

Unfortunately, a sale of Rivers was not able to be achieved. This means the receivers have made the difficult decision to wind down this iconic Australian brand.

Sad news about the impending demise of Rivers.

I have bought three pairs of casual shoes from Rivers over the past 15 years or so. They were comfortable, long lasting and were not too expensive.

According to company website, Rivers was founded in Ballarat in 1979, bought by Speciality Fashion Group in 2013 and on-sold to Mosaic Brands in 2018.

At the same time Mosaic Brands announced the end of Rivers, another business is also saying goodbye in mid-April, a Geelong institution for the past 26 years.

Bad news for Rivers, and sad for all the workers impacted by this, but it was inevitable. Felt like it was several times over the past 10 years where Rivers was at threat of shutting down only to keep on going. Hope all the workers find better jobs, doesn’t seem like Mosaic is moving them to other brands.

Won’t be too much longer before they too get the axe and Mosaic Brands folds as a hole. Millers and Noni B won’t stay. They too will be liquidated and closed. It’s inevitable. Katies is gone, Rivers is gone, now soon to be gone are Millers and Noni B. I know it hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it is inevitable at this point.
