I have had no issue with Kmart shirts they always lasted me a long time . And decent quality.

Myer on the other hand …. But expensive shirts and don’t last long .

It’s been so long since I wore a Kmart shirt

I was talking to someone only recently about this who is a buyer at Kmart. They are currently about 3 months behind. It and BIGW are the two biggest importers apparently with the most space however both have over invested in stock due to surge buying continuing. So god help the little guys.

An ongoing case study as to the failures of the long beloved Just-in-Time inventory method.

It was always about reducing costs to increase profits; customers being able to get what they want was never important (beyond if a company lost customers to competitors).

There doesn’t appear to be much desire to move from it either

Kmart and BIGW both face the same headwinds. I don’t think we will see Christmas decorations out as early this year. Reports around also of retailers dumping/writing off stock in China, and sending other higher priority items.

Some of Officeworks’ newer red segmented line branding elements have appeared in this month’s catalogue:

The current logo remains.

The new ‘ow’ acronym can also been seen towards the bottom of the right-side page and in certain areas:

No doubt Coles will reverse this decision once again later down the line at the very least for its high end concept stores, it’s not the first time it’s happened.

However butchers counters in both Coles and Woolworths are extremely underutilised by the masses, so it’s not a surprise that Coles has pulled the trigger as it will likely not impact the customer experience for probably somewhere like 90% of its customers.

Ms Karlsson and Mr Lacy said the company’s collapse was a direct result of the current lockdowns in NSW, Victoria and the ACT.

Sure.

Zombie retailers before, during and after the pandemic. It was only a matter of ‘when’.

It looks like maybe they are reopening… I’m guessing in the old Kmart space?

There is this article

https://www.cairnspost.com.au/news/cairns/major-retailers-opening-in-cairns-central/news-story/fe88a91c76e211cb3cda05987339a861

But it is paywalled…

So I found the post from Cairns Post on Facebook. And apart from all the comments of people being excited about Mimco, there was also a comment saying Target is returning.

Strange that Target are going to invest in Cairns Central, I would have thought they would have achieved better earnings across the Kmart and Target banners, by Cairns losing two Target stores, pushing its Target Stockland store up in Sales and achieving better numbers also at Kmart Smithfield (Target Clifton gone) and Kmart Cairns Central (Target gone)

Would be good to see BIGW out at Smithfield.

Interesting that now the dead weight / lease liabilities / conversions are all done with that they’re immediately back to opening new locations. Indicates that Wesfarmers aren’t selling it off anytime soon and they mustn’t be losing too much, if any money with the current operations.
