Supermarkets and Retail

Still prefer it to Target and K-Mart, Even if K-Mart seems to be the favorite of consumers these days.

and trying to dispose of Dick Smith as well at the same time after blowing hundreds of millions trying to become market leader in the category when they never had a chance / made bad decision after bad decision.

Not to mention the utter corporate arrogance on display during the Grant O’Brien years they genuinely bought into the idea that Masters would be beating Bunnings in less than 5 years.

They were doing this through 2018-2019, though not exactly well advertised (in store signage only).

Don’t get me wrong Kmart has done a sensational job to achieve its earnings of today, via its low cost high volume direct sourced approach. However it’s largely all disposable junk. Bigw quality is much better and not much more.

However lowest cost always wins.

I hate to be horrible but the filth I have seen shopping at Kmart…there are no words.

I try not to go into K-Mart these days since they killed off their Home Entertainment section (I get why they did though) since the vast majority of their product has no appeal to me. Even their clothing feels very cheap for the most part though they do stock Everlast so that is the one plus I will give them over Big W.

Keep your classist bullshit out of this thread. First and final warning.

Fair enough lol. :zipper_mouth_face:

This was Coles New World’s final slogan before the rebrand.

Seven News Melbourne this evening had a report on the long-awaited redevelopment of Westfield Knox, also mentioning Myer closed its doors today after nearly 45 years at the site.

Popped in there today, it was a bit sad to see it all so empty and bare.

There was, however, a full-priced sunglasses hut concession still open, which was doing a roaring trade.

But there are now so many empty shops now - and others closing soon (including an actually closing Ishka).

I’m surprised Westfield didn’t do all they could to get Myer to consolidate onto one floor. This is a centre with two Coles, Target, Kmart, Harris Scarfe and TK Max already. There’s not really anything else to slot in.

Ozone was busy, as always.

I thought he was talking about the stock? There you go…

It certainly looked much better on the storefronts than the current one.

The font on the current logo is too thin and doesn’t really stand out like the old RED CAPS did. I reckon they should’ve gone with the “fresh food people” font from this logo:

The old Woolworths “logo” wasn’t really a logo - it was more of an embellished wordmark. It was literally WOOLWORTHS in Helvetica (read - the blandest, most generic font out there) with three stripes on either side.

The current logo is fine. I’m not too keen on the ‘Woolworths’ wordmark though - the font style looks kind of dated already. The wordmark uses a humanist-style font which was quite popular in the 1990s and 2000s, but from what I’ve seen these have fallen out of fashion.

Coles is quite remarkable for not actually having a logo these days. It has a similarly generic wordmark to what Woolworths used to have. They could do with an actual logo.

I noticed BIGW had copied Coles in its new logo at front of stores with the white text and branded colour on the back in a rectangle badge.

Here is a previous new logo they had I assume last year. The white text definitely stands out more. I can’t keep up with the amount of logos that place has lol.

I’m pretty sure the current “Woolworths” font is actually Myriad Pro or some variant of it.

As for Coles…

I often assumed that the decision to just have the “coles” wording as the logo was made for cost reasons - far cheaper to just get rid of the orb (or in rare cases, tick) from store signage for a “current” logo than it is to come up with a completely new logo that inevitably would take ages to be rolled out everywhere.

Would look so nice with the entire store front painted blue

Looks so much better than the current one.

I was at a Vinnies store and found some Target stuff. I found some what appeared new denim mens shorts and new tshirt as well as a polo shirt all about $4 each. They’ve been washed multiple times in a front loader and still hold their shape and look new. I had a look at the stiching too and they seem well constructed. Not sure though if this was stuff made several years ago and Target is no longer like this… the Kmart t shirts i saw were thin and looked a little shapeless.

We have Target facewashers also seem good quality. Though our local Target Country closed as well as Snap Fitness and apparently they are going to put a cinema in the empty space.

I wouldn’t trust their in-house clothing brands. The licensed shirts they get feel cheap and poorly made though the Everlast shirts are of good quality. I don’t think I’d buy denim from them though.

In relation to this discussion:

Officeworks’ website is currently down…

It could be nothing, though when BIG W rebranded, the website also went down:

It would make sense, as areas of the website changed to a darker blue in the last few days, and the new ‘ow’ symbol is appearing more frequent as a badge for certain deals (clearance).

Edit: the website is back up and no change currently, here are the new ‘ow’ badges:
