Woolworths did the glass containers promo over the last few months. I only redeemed them last month while sitting on the couch reading a receipt about it. Got 2 Free Jars and I wasn’t guilty of spending an extra cent to participate. I dont think that one was too popular as they had the entire range going out at a special credit rate to clear the stock. I clearly picked the biggest containers.
These sort of promo’s are more targeting moving peoples big Woolworths shops to Coles. Shiny Stainless Steel kitchenware many will get sucked in.
the fact they’ve brought in a half pay option indicates that previous take-ups were not too great.
Sounds like a way to grab some profit on the way on what is normally high margin stock.
I also wonder if sneaky price hikes inside the supermarket helps subsidise some of these programs. I have seen some price hikes this months on some of the Woolworths House Brand stuff I have been buying for a while (Oils, Meds, Macro Ranges)
I got a Masterchef Knife and a 1.5L container from Woolworths in the last round of those points things - pretty good without going above my usual shop.
I have no doubt they were doing it recently, but it reminds me of a promotion Action Supermarkets did back in 1999/2000/2001ish with Linea Europa cookware.
If this ex-checkout operator’s mind serves correctly, it was $15 for 1 sticker - but I can’t remember how many you needed to redeem. I think 10 was the minimum.
New World in NZ just did one with Smeg knives and it went gangbusters, while Countdown (Woolworths owned) also did the glass containers and it went nuts
The cookware program was prominent in all commercial news programs tonight. In Seven’s report Coles said their MasterChef knife campaign is its most popular loyalty campaign yet.
Same here. I received a few emails telling me I had 22 credits, which accrued over the course of my normal grocery shopping.
Went into a store one night and they had a pallet of them right in the entrance, with oddly discreet “all container sizes now 20 credits” . Naturally picked the biggest one. From memory it scanned up at about $40 before I redeemed those credits.
I can’t imagine anyone genuinely spending more than normal to earn these things, but they’re a nice bonus if you happen to build up enough credits with your normal spend.
A new Harris Scarfe department store opens in Rockdale this Thursday 18 March 2021 in the Spotlight/Anaconda centre. It takes up the space which has been vacant since The Good Guys moved to Tempe in 2017.
I wonder how it will do. The Target in Rockdale closed in 2015.
I was able to redeem some of my points for knives at Coles but when I finally had enough for another one, all the supermarkets has run out of stock in NSW, about two weeks before the promotion ended. I felt a bit ripped off because I had enough for the big carving knife. They should have allowed my points carry over to the pans now.
The containers at Woolies were running at the same time.
We got 3 or 4 knives. But only because we shop regularly and often at Coles and always accrue points organically. These pans do seem to require a lot of spend though this time.
The knives were actually really good. I have a few of them.
Much easier to achieve if you are shopping for a family though. $250-$300 for the main food shop then all the side food purchases you do during the week.
